After hitting the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday, Janelle Monáe gave partygoers a night to remember at the after party.
Janelle entered the Metropolitan Museum wearing an oversized Thom Browne black and white coat which her assistants peeled off to reveal a wire hoop skirt layered underneath.
“Oh it keeps unraveling. Wait for it,” said an amused reporter at the event. Janelle raised the hoop skirt to show off her sparkling black bikini which she accessorized with a white cat-shaped purse and black and white platform boots by Thom Browne.
Janelle adhered to the theme of the evening, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty,” by paying homage to Lagerfeld’s beloved feline named Choupette.
“I go as an art student,” she told PEOPLE. “You have an assignment. This is the theme. And me and my team are literally like art students collaborating on a group project, and we’re there.”
Afterwards, Janelle danced on top of a bar at a Met Gala after party in the Boom Boom Room on the top floor of the Standard Hotel in NYC.
