A suspect has been arrested in the murder of a 22-year-old Instagram influencer whose body was discovered near a burning car in Austell, Georgia last week.
Beauty “Katera” Couch was last seen on Tuesday, Aug 22, by her adoptive mother, Deanna Thurman. Couch was a popular Instagram influencer who posted videos of herself rollerskating and dancing. She had a following of over 150,000 on Instagram, where she offered rollerskating lessons.
Couch’s body was discovered in a wooded area after police responded to a brush fire call near Jerkins Boulevard and Landers Street at approximately 12:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Officers found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the woods. The car was registered to Couch’s adoptive mother, Thurman.
“Upon arrival, they located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames,” said a spokesperson for the Cobb County Police Department. Officers towed the car to a wreck yard. They returned to the scene the next day to search for evidence. That’s when they discovered Couch’s body in the tree line.
Couch’s boyfriend, Eugene Louis-Jocques, 21, was arrested in Louisiana and charged with murder, arson and aggravated assault, according to the St. Tammany Parrish Sheriff’s Proactive Enforcement Unit.
Louis-Jocques is awaiting extradition back to Cobb County where he will stand trial for murder.
As of Tuesday morning, friends and followers had donated $12,096 to a GoFundMe account for burial expenses.
“She was a sweet girl. She never bothered nobody. She never bothered nobody. She was a friend to everybody,” her biological mother, Kimberly Couch, told FOX 5 News.
