An enterprising Colorado company has produced the first marijuana vending machine in the country. The vending machine will be put into operation at a pot dispensary in Eagle-Vail, Colo., UPI reports.
The new machines will be equipped with cameras and scanner technology to identify the person swiping the medical marijuana card.
The so-called Zazz machine was delivered to the Herbal Elements dispensary Friday.
The dispensary debuted the machine to the public outside Montana’s Smokehouse barbecue restaurant in Avon on Friday.
“We’re looking forward to using the ZAZZ machine to easily track all this inventory … we’re gonna eliminate the middle man. It’ll go straight from the budtender right into our machine. There’s no room for theft by patients, employees … there’s no way to lose track of the inventory,” Herbal Elements owner Greg Honan said.
The machine includes technology that requires users to swipe their driver’s license to verify their identity and age. Multiple cameras attached to the machine make sure the person swiping the card is the same person depicted on the card.
“They would swipe their driver’s license at which point multiple cameras would allow us to use some advanced biometrics to make absolutely certain that the person who swiped the card is the owner of that card,” said Stephen Shearin, who’s company, American Green, produced the pot vending machine.
