Doctors at Cambridge have made a remarkable new discovery that could mean a cure for the common cold virus. The new discovery could also signal the end of AIDS since HIV, which causes AIDS, is also a virus.

Medical students have always been taught that the virus, which causes twice as many deaths as cancer, could not be killed once it enters the body's cells. Therefore, the virus was believed to be immune to the body's own defenses and to our most powerful antibiotics and anti-viral drugs.

But not any more.

A study by a team of researchers from the world-famous Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge has shown that this textbook explanation of the limits of the human immune system is wrong because anti-viral antibodies can in fact enter the cell with the invading virus where they are able to trigger the rapid destruction of the foreign invader.

In a dramatic breakthrough that could affect millions of lives, scientists have been able to show for the first time that the body's immune defences can destroy the common cold virus after it has actually invaded the inner sanctum of a human cell, a feat that was believed until now to be impossible.

The discovery opens the door to the development of a new class of antiviral drugs that work by enhancing this natural virus-killing machinery of the cell. Scientists believe the first clinical trials of new drugs based on the findings could begin within two to five years.

Earlier I mentioned the fact that Will Smith's daughter Willow Smith said she didn't have much time for studying due to her busy schedule. As a result, she readily admits that, although her parents can afford to hire the best tutors, she is still lagging far behind the rest of the students.

How can a 9-year-old be too busy to attend to her schoolwork? And why aren't her parents stepping in to make sure that her schoolwork takes priority over everything else she's got going in her young life?

According to a loyal reader, who asked to remain anonymous, Willow appeared to struggle with the word 'Congratulates' while reading a plaque given to her on BET's 106 & Park recently.

A loyal reader writes:

Can young Willow Smith read at grade level?

I love the Smiths. I LOVE their children. They're a very blessed family. However since I saw Willow on BET's 106 and Park it made me wonder if she was reading at her grade level.

Willow is stunning, I am a fan of her music and her family...but while reading her very first plaque she struggled with the word "congratulates". The host had to finish reading that word for her. I'm unsure what grade level "congratulates" is under but I'm at work while sneaking this email to you. I've found the Scholastic website. Perhaps its on there.

Even though U.S. President Barack Obama's name is not on the ballot in the upcoming midterm elections, he has hit the campaign trail hard because he desperately needs a win.

So for the first time in 20 months, Obama, who is half black, is reaching out to the black and independent voters whose passion and eagerness to make history, helped propel him into office in 2008.

Never mind that he promised the moon and the stars -- and failed to deliver -- Obama fully expects black voters to turn out in record numbers at the polls on November 2nd.

“We need to finish the plan you elected me to put in place. And I need you. I need you because this isn’t going to be easy," said Obama at a Congressional Black Caucus’ annual dinner last month. [link]

A typical narcissist, Obama has made the midterm elections all about him rather than about the politicians whose names are on the ballot. He has made it clear that a loss for the Democrats in November would be a devastating failure for him personally.

“Don’t make me look bad, now,” Obama pleaded at a rally on the campus of historically black Bowie State University last week.

“Two years ago you defied the conventional wisdom in Washington,” Obama told thousands of black supporters Sunday at a rally in Philadelphia. “They said, ‘No you can’t. No you can’t elect a skinny guy with a funny name to the presidency of the United States,’” he added.

But not everyone in the black community hears Obama's rallying cry. There are some who are suspicious of Obama's sudden interest in the black community -- even if they don't voice their suspicions out loud.

“We haven’t heard from you in a while,” radio host Tom Joyner said sarcastically to the president at the start of his interview last month. [link]

“You know, I don’t get a chance to do much radio these days,” replied Obama, who records a weekly radio address every Saturday morning.

It's clear that Obama's faithful flock doesn't hold him to the same standards that they held George Bush to. Despite record unemployment in the black community, there are those who still make excuses for O.

“We know that people have short memories, but they have to remember that Barack Obama didn’t create this problem,” Carolyn Pinkney, an African American voter, said at Obama’s rally.

“Of course there’s some disenchantment because the president came in with such high expectations levels,” said Rendell. “But on the other hand there’s still a lot of African Americans who say, ‘Hey, he’s not superman and he can’t change everything in 20 months.’” [link]

How embarrassing is this: you're the president of the United States. But a former president, who was impeached by Congress, is more popular than you are.

Here's a fun fact from the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll: Bill Clinton is the most popular political figure in the country. The former president, who never won an outright majority of the popular vote and was impeached by Congress, enjoys a 55–23 favorable/unfavorable rating. Clinton left office with an approval rating of 68 percent according to the CBS poll at the time, so his continuing popularity is not surprising. Source

Why is this happening at a time when we should still be celebrating the first biracial man ever elected president?

The answer is clear: American voters have lost touch with the Machiavellian, socialist president they put in office.

At some point Obama must have been clued in by his advisors that his narcissistic ways were causing him to lose his liberal base. But like most narcissists, Obama refused to listen. It took former president George Bush six years to lose the support of his base. Obama has managed to accomplish this feat in only two short years.

The same enthusiastic supporters (blacks and whites) who carried Obama to that historic win in 2008, are now abandoning him in droves. Likewise, Obama's top advisors are systematically abandoning ship.

Obama tried to fire up his dwindling Democratic base at a rally at the University of Wisconsin on Tuesday (Sept. 28).

“They’re betting on your apathy,” Obama said to the crowd of mostly high school and college students. “Madison, you’ve got to prove them wrong.”

A Rutgers student committed suicide last week after his roommate uploaded a sex tape of him making out with another male.

According to WPIX, the freshman jumped off the George Washington bridge on Thursday, Sept. 23, after his roommate uploaded the sex tape to the Internet.

Fellow freshmen students Dharun Ravi, 18, of Plainsboro and Molly Wei, 18, of Princeton have been charged with invasion of privacy for allegedly placing a camera in 18-year-old Tyler Clementi's room.

Ravi and Wei were charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy for using a camera to view and transmit a live image of the teen during the sexual encounter on Sept. 19.

Ravi was additionally charged with two more counts of invasion of privacy for trying to use the hidden camera to view the same student during another sexual encounter just three days later on Sept. 21.

Days before the suicide, Ravi tweeted: "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into Molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay."

Ravi was released on $25,000 bail. He has since deleted his Twitter page. If convicted, both students face up to 5 years in prison.

According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan, it is a fourth-degree crime to collect or view images depicting nudity or sexual content of an individual without that person's consent. The crime becomes a third-degree offense if the images are transmitted or distributed. [link]

"The university takes these matters seriously and has policies to deal with student behavior," said spokeswoman Sandra Lanman. "Under federal law, the university cannot comment on specifics." [link]

Rihanna is in the Navy now. Isn't she gorgeous as a butch soldier? Love the hair! Okay, I'm kidding. She's actually starring in her first feature length film titled "Battleship," named after the popular board game that we all loved as kids. Rihanna will play a beautiful fearless naval officer who is helping to battle the aliens. That's funny, I don't remember any aliens being a part of the Battleship game. Yesterday on RiRi announced she will be releasing new music in about 10 days.

Jet Setter Halle Berry was not a happy camper as she arrived back at Heathrow airport after a two-day trip to New York yesterday. I'm assuming she's tired of answering questions about her rumored pregnancy (see her balled up fist). Halle is in London filming a movie. She was in New York visiting her daughter Nahla and baby daddy Gabe Aubry. I keep hearing that Halle can't keep a man because of her stank attitude. That's not entirely her fault. It's rare that you meet a beautiful woman who doesn't have issues. That's because these women grow up hearing how cute and beautiful they are almost daily. As a result, they grow up with a feeling of false entitlement. They simply stop believing they have to be nice to get attention.

Loyal reader Marteeta C. sent in this video of her adorable 3-year-old son, Jayson, after watching this disgraceful video of a child being videotaped "riding it" to Ciara's song.

Jayson gives us all inspiration, and gives me hope that all is not lost in our community as long as we have parents like Marteeta who instills values and importance of education in our children!

Hi Sandra,

Just watched that video of that little girl and I weep for my people! We should be educating our youth not destroying them with all of the graphic sexual images on TV, videos, video games etc.

This is my son, Jayson in the attached video:
he was 3 years old in the video and he better not ever bring a little "heffa" like that to our home. My husband and I believe in training our children to be assets to this society and not liabilities.

Have a great day Sandra!

PS(I know that the word is heifer...I can spell and I happen to be a college grad)

Another reader emailed me to say she knows the father -- yes, the father -- who videotaped his daughter performing sexually suggestive dance moves. Apparently the child's mother is in prison.

I urged the reader to call her local child welfare authorities to report the father for uploading that video to the Internet and exploiting a minor child.

Those of you who say I never post anything positive on my blog will probably ignore this post as you always do.

Atlanta City Councilmember Keisha Lance Bottoms partnered with R&B singer Sammie, Ludacris, Future Foundation and Greenbriar Mall for a Back to School Rally on July 31st in the Greenbriar Mall parking lot.

I spent a couple of hours in the parking lot at Greenbrier on Saturday, and I was amazed at the turnout. There were hundreds of kids at the Back To School rally. It was beautiful to see the community come out to support the children. The children were well behaved and orderly as they lined up to receive backpacks as well as school supplies and even new fire hats from the fire department!

I LOVE Greenbrier mall for the shopping and the sales. Jimmy Jazz is my spot!

This video doesn't contain images of nudity, violence, hood rat beat downs or Kat Stacks, so you probably won't watch it. And those of you who say I never post positive things on my blog will probably ignore this post like you do all my other positive posts.

But I'm posting this anyway in the hopes that at least one parent or teacher will watch it and use the message to empower their youth.

Loyal reader Jarrett Mathis writes:

Dear Sandra Rose,

My name is Jarrett Mathis and I am a recent graduate of Dartmouth College. I am a Government Major. Also, I am a big fan of your blog!

Over the last 5 years, I have worked diligently to craft an interactive workshop that will help to empower black youth and reduce violence in the inner-city. I decided to create a workshop in order to get young people to think seriously about the importance of respect for self and others. I recently transformed this workshop into a documentary, which you can view on my website

I am a young brother who cares deeply about the black community. I think this website/film can have a very positive impact in our community. But, I do not have money for advertising. I would really appreciate it if you could post this information on your blog.

Thank you for your consideration!

All the Best,

The former director of the U.S. space exploration agency blasted Barack Obama's "foremost" directive for NASA, calling it "flawed."

"NASA ... represents the best of America. Its purpose is not to inspire Muslims or any other cultural entity," Michael Griffin, who served as NASA administrator during the latter half of the Bush administration, told [link]

Griffin also said that while collaboration with other nations is welcome, Muslim-nation cooperation is not vital for U.S. advancements in space exploration.

"There is no technology they have that we need," Griffin said.

Charles Bolden, the current Administrator, recently came under heavy scrutiny when he told Al Jazeera in an interview last month that Obama's "foremost" directive was for him to reach out to Muslims and make them feel good about their contributions to math and science.

Griffin, the former administrator, stressed that any criticism should be directed at Obama, not Bolden, since NASA merely carries out policy.

Officials from the White House and NASA confirmed the claim that NASA's mission is to reach out to Muslims, but, according to FOX News, NASA backed off the assertion that international diplomacy was its "foremost" responsibility.

Bob Jacobs, NASA's assistant administrator for public affairs, said that Bolden, the current administrator, misspoke.

He said NASA's "core mission" is exploration and that it was "unfortunate" that Bolden's comments are now being viewed through a "partisan prism."
