Premiere Event: Dem Franchize Boyz Listening Party at New Era Store, 3/20

Photo by Freddyo Exclusively for Sandrarose.com

Dem Franchize Boyz scored major hits with the singles “White Tee’s,” “Oh, I Think They Like Me,” and “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It.” But the Bankhead crew outgrew their contract at So So Def and signed a deal with Capital Records instead.

Now they are back to prove their success wasn’t a fluke with their sophomore album Da Point of No Return, which drops March 25. Last night the rap group held a listening party for Atlanta retailers and industry veeps at the New Era Flagship store – and my photographer Freddy O was there to capture all the excitement.

The New Era Atlanta Flagship store is located at 117 Luckie Street and has become home to collaborations, ATL exclusives, and crossover caps that promise to make fashionistas of all sorts salivate.

Check out their website www..neweracap.com.

Big thanks to Jennifer Yu of New Era for the personal invite!

Jermaine Dupri Presents: BRUTHA

32

I don’t know about you guys, but I have grown wary of those painfully boring MTV Making of the Band groups. The television viewing audience is not stupid. No matter how cute you dress it up – we know fake when we see it.

But finally someone gets the concept right. Jermaine Dupri has signed a new group called Brutha, and together with Turner Network, he has created a new reality show which documents the rise of a REAL group – not a fake manufactured group.

Peachtree TV follows five talented teens (real brothers from the same family) as they audition for the Big Time in Jermaine Dupri Presents: BRUTHA.

The one-hour original Special is set to Air Monday, March 24, at 8 p.

For some reason their Myspace page was deleted. Luckily, they have a growing core of fans who saved their music.

Read their bio after the break.

Bubblin’ Under: M.J. DA Weatherman

Some cats get into the rap game for the cars, riches and clothes. But the wanna be ballers are soon exposed and quickly dispatched when their records flop. M.J. DA Weatherman, real name Michael Jackson, enters the game with his pockets already fat.

He’s not related to the famous Jacksons, but he has the women, cars and clothes, not to mention a fat portfolio, his own businesses, and investment property.

He’s a business man first and a rapper second. He also has an abundance of talent and charisma that has already garnered the attention of movers and shakers like Greg Street of V-103, DJ Khaled and Rick Ross, both of whom appeared on DA Weatherman’s mixtapes.

One of DA Weatherman’s tracks called “Hood On Fire” is so hot it slayed the competition on Greg Streets popular “Street Fights” segment all this week on V-103.

He’s known as DA weatherman because he brings it like the weatherman, rain, heat or snow. It wasn’t always C.R.E.A.M. for DA Weatherman who grew up homeless in the streets. From a young age, his motto was “What don’t kill you, makes you stronger!”

His famous name gave him the incentive to build a better life for himself and his family. Now he dreams of opening shelters and buildings for the homeless, and helping those who needs help. M.J. DA Weatherman has weathered the storm. “I am blessed and know that if God can bring me and my family from staying in empty houses and vans, then He can and will do it for anyone!,” says DA Weatherman.

His work ethic is impressive. He records and distributes his own mixtapes every week around the country on his Money Maker Records label.

Fan Mail: Rocko not claiming Monica?

Photo by Freddyo Exclusively for Sandrarose.com

Readers are always invited to email me, but sometimes I get the strangest requests. Yesterday, a reader sent me an email asking me to explain a statement made by Rocko Da Don during his recent appearance on BET’s 106 & Park. The email contained a transcript of the interview.

The reader challenged me to post the contents of the email on my site. She threatened to send the same email to “another popular blog that gives readers an opinion,” if I didn’t.

The last time I checked, my readers were free to express their opinions on any subject.

The reader went on to assume that Rocko, who shares a home with Monica, was not “claiming” her on the show based on his response to a question he was asked. By the way, Rocko’s fiancee Monica was also a guest on the show that day.

The question posed to Rocko was: “What exactly is your relationship with Monica?” Rocko’s response was, “I mean, shout outs to Monica. That’s my people. We got a cool situation. We got kids, the whole nine of whatever. So shout to Monica.”

Anyone who knows Rocko knows how he feels about Monica and his kids. Rocko is a thug. Thugs don’t normally open up to total strangers. They are very reserved, methodical and control-oriented. They keep their emotions in check.

All that matters is that Rocko and Monica love each other, they support each other’s careers, and take care of their kids. Everything else is irrelevant.

1 in 5 men has slept with a hooker

In my comment section last week, one of my loyal readers, NC_NYer, advises black women not to hire a PI to follow their husbands and catch them in the act of cheating.

Accordint to NC_NYer, why waste money to confirm what she should already know?

This is the reason we as a race have the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS of any community.

A great number of men in Atlanta are cheating with other men – mainly male street hustlers who far outnumber female hookers.

A new study shows that 1 out of 5 men on average has slept with a hooker. According to the study, men sleep with hookers for any number of reasons: variety, getting something they can’t get at home, or just the sheer thrill of it.

But if you don’t ask, they don’t tell.

“If I were asked point-blank, I would tell them the truth. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to tell a girlfriend,” says investment banker David, 27, who reports he really can’t even count how many times he has been with a prostitute. He would only spill the beans if he thought he was going to get caught.

“If I thought I was going to let something slip, then I guess I would have to raise the issue,” he says. “But if my girlfriend were really uptight, I would just never talk about it.”

Psychologist and relationship expert Cooper Lawrence says the nicer the girlfriend, the more likely the guy might seek sex outside the relationship.

If you think your man doesn’t cheat, remember that black women make up two-thirds of new HIV diagnoses among women.

Keyshia Cole: The Way It is Reunion Show premieres tonight

22

The Keyshia Cole Reunion show is on right now on BET. Keyshia recounts her her struggles in life before she became a star. She talks about flying to LA on a wing and a prayer when she was only 14-year-old and hoping Suge Knight would pick her up from the airport.

Keyshia also talks about her time with Tupac Shakur when she was a teen.

Keyshia thanks her haters for motivating her and she introduces her new nephew to the studio audience. The 2 hour special was taped in Atlanta on March 1st. It is hosted by Ananda Lewis.

Rocko’s Self Made predicted to push 35-50K in first week sales

According to industry estimates, Rocko‘s debut album “Self Made” is expected to rack up 35-50k in first week sales. Sean Combs‘ manufactured girl group Danity Kane will top the charts at #1 with total sales in the 250-275k range.

Another rapper whose debut album will crack the top ten is Atlantic South Beach rapper Flo Rida with an estimated 70-80k in sales on the strength of the smash hit singles, “Low” and “Elevator.”

Judge: T.I. allowed to attend Easter Sunday service

A federal magistrate judge has given permission for T.I. to attend Easter services this Sunday at New Birth Missionary Baptist church. The judge ruled Thursday that the 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, can be away from home from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for services by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

T.I. is on house arrest awaiting trial on federal gun charges. He was arrested Oct. 13, just blocks away and hours before he was to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. Harris was allegedly trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. (Source)

I will be among the groupies who found themselves a new church home on Sunday as I put on my Sunday best and head on over to New Birth. I wonder if there’s a cover charge to get in?

Thanks to loyal reader Jaclyn Jones for the tip!

Chris Brown: ‘I have a close friend, but it’s not like a relationship’

29

Did you expect the above quote to make any sense? Remember this is coming out of the mouth of a goofy kid who can’t make up his mind if he wants to be with the hottest chick in the game or his old lady.

MTV Base recently pinned Chris Brown down and asked him point blank if he was dating Rihanna.

Chris’ response was, “as a relationship standpoint I am a single guy, I am definitely single”.

But Chris quickly added, I have a close friend but it’s not like a relationship, I’m not trying to settle down, I’m only 18 so I’m just trying to live my life and have fun”. (Source 1 and 2)

Business Women: Leslie Leland, Hair Ex founder

A couple of days ago I traveled to College Park, GA to shoot Rocko Da Don‘s meet & greet at the DTLR store. I wasn’t in the store 2 minutes when a male friend approached me and began running his fingers across my scalp looking for tracks.

I notice a lot of gay men do this. But I am always confident that when they touch my hair looking for tracks, they will never find what they are searching for. That’s because my bra strap length mane is made possible through a weaving process called invisible infusions.

It’s hard to find stylists in the Atlanta area who do Invisible Infusions. Leslie Leland of Hair Ex, whose clients include Porsche Foxx and Elle of V-103, does a process similar to Invisible Infusions called the “strand by strand” method.

Hair-Ex, based in the affluent Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs, Georgia, provides top quality hair extensions for weaves. Founder and sole proprietor Leslie Leland launched the business nearly three years ago and today her pioneering enterprise is Georgia’s premier hair importer.

“We import virgin Indian and Malaysian hair from India and we retail it here in the states. I basically got into it for my colleagues in the entertainment business,” says Ms. Leland, who began her international human hair importing company while on hiatus from the music business.

Ms. Leland is the executive producer of Rissi Palmer’s (touted as the first African American female country singer) debut album.

Hair-Ex acquires the finest human manes from its cultivators overseas and does their own importing, which enables them to provide the best value for the highest quality. “I traveled over to India in December 2005, met with native exporters and studied the business,” she said. “When a customer comes in to our retail location we match their hair and they’re able to purchase it right then. On average our prices are between $350 and $900,” said Ms. Leland. (Source)

Hair-Ex is located at 5975 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, Georgia. Purchases can be made online by visiting: www.hair-ex.com or call (404) 843-4447.
