Serena Williams blogs about heartbreak
Apparently, tennis superstar Serena Williams and actor Jackie Long (or rapper Common) are no longer an item. Maybe I’m the last to know that? Serena wrote a long blog about ridding herself of a relationship and “finding a new me”. Of course we all go through heartbreak, but it’s interesting when it’s someone like Serena – who seems so strong – who suffers the same heartache as normal folk. “You start to trust him,” she wrote on her official website. “Something you have not done since your first heartbreak. Something you vowed you would never do again.
“But slowly your heart comes out of its steel enclosure.
“Weeks turn into months and you no longer talk to anyone else, just him. And then it happens. Not the ‘L’ word. But what you have been most afraid of. ‘What deep in your heart you have been afraid to confront. What you always suspected would happen one day sooner or later. HE STOPS CALLING.
As you begin to ask him what happened he stops you. He says the dreaded ‘I need space’.”

Atlanta’s radio listeners will suffer a setback this Fall when the new Arbitron ratings system takes effect according to a radio industry insider. The “next generation of electronic ratings” is based on a new system called the Portable People Meter which already has radio programmers pulling their hair out.
The creator of the new system was in town yesterday delivering the bad news to area radio stations. Urban radio programmers say the system is unfair to urban formats because it uses volunteers to wear portable meters which pick up signals from radios in the area. The problem, say the programmers, is that there won’t be enough volunteers wearing portable meters in urban areas.
The PPM system is already in place in major markets such as LA, Houston, Philadelphia and New York. Stations that were once riding high on the Arbitron charts saw their ratings plunge. WBLS shock jock Wendy Williams‘s show plummeted from the #1 spot out of the top ten when the system took effect in NY last year. Her contract is not expected to be renewed.
Several stations in Atlanta will be forced to change formats come August when the system is launched here. But one Atlanta urban radio station is set to close it’s doors for good according to my source.
Did Janet swagger jack Ciara’s style?
We all know the entertainment biz lacks creativity and originality. Celebrities jack each other’s style like there’s no tomorrow. And producers jack other producers’ beats which have already been recycled endlessly.
So it comes as no surprise that Ciara‘s fans have taken to the Internets to protest Janet Jackson for jacking Ciara’s style in her new video.
People are still talking about Janet’s banishment from MTV and how that will affect her record sales when her album drops this Spring. Janet’s last album came in a distant second to Ludacris‘s CD. Many believe her next CD will suffer the same fate. MTV refuses to acknowledge any of Janet’s projects. And let’s face it: without TRL exposure, celebs don’t fare well on the charts.
MTV’s TRL is a major stop on any celeb’s pre-album release promo tour. But as far as MTV is concerned, Janet doesn’t exist.
Congratulations to Monica! She had a boy
Congratulations to Monica and her fiance Rodney “Rocko” Hill who welcomed a baby boy in Atlanta on January 8. We don’t know the first name of the little guy yet (Monica’s stepfather couldn’t pronounce the baby’s name this morning even though I pressed him to remember).
I am a little miffed that this isn’t BIG news though. I Googled Monica’s name and I saw only two references to the fact that she had her baby. Monica is doing well and she’s expected to leave the hospital in a couple of days – no, there weren’t any complications.
I’ve been out of the loop working hard on a new project so I had very little Internet access the past few days. I only found out Monica’s baby last night when Sarah from Celebrity Baby Blog emailed me. But at least I wasn’t the last to know.
I spoke with someone at V-103 this morning who didn’t know about the birth either. I’m told that Monica’s cousin gave the information to the local rag which explains everything. While the local rag reaches millions, it doesn’t reach Monica’s audience. Why do celebrities continue to underestimate the power of blogs?
Rumor Control: Lil’ Boosie is still living
There’s a horrible rumor going around that rapper Lil’ Boosie was shot dead. This rumor is untrue. Lil’ Boosie is okay according to his reps and local radio station, V-103.

As you know, Barack Obama lost the New Hampshire primaries by 3 percentage points. All day he’s leading in the double figures only to lose by the slimmest of margins. How creative of them. That’s their way of reminding us who we are and who is still in control in the white house.

Calm down people, Obama will be fine
It’s looking more and more like Barack Obama will be the first ever ibiracial president of the United States. So why are black people everywhere trying to put the mojo on him? Poll a group of black people and 90% of them will say that Obama is as good as toast if he wins. The man hasn’t even taken office yet and already we’re planning his funeral.
What I don’t understand is why would the same people who vote to put him in office want to see him dead? Can we all get a grip? This is not 1968, it’s 2008. Rednecks have more things to worry about than Barack Obama in the white house. What would be the point of shooting Obama after he takes office? Won’t he still be the first ever biracial president of the United States even after he’s dead?
Even rednecks can appreciate the fact that at least Hillary Clinton won’t be the next president. Maybe a little color in the oval office is what this country needs to get it back on track after the Bush gravy train leaves the station.
