A 37-year-old registered nurse (RN) was fatally shot by U.S. Border Patrol agents during an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 24.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Alex Pretti carried a concealed weapon and 2 full clips when he confronted Border Patrol agents outside a convenience store.

Video shows Pretti filming the federal agents before resisting arrest. Agents yelled “gun, gun,” as one of the agents disarmed Pretti. He was shot multiple times while on the ground.

Pretti was a nurse for the Minneapolis VA Health Care System’s intensive care unit (ICU).

“[A] member of our union lost their life today, and that alone is devastating. Our hearts are heavy, and we are deeply stricken by this tragedy that has befallen one of our own,” the union that reps Minneapolis VA Health Care System employees wrote in a statement on Saturday.

Social media users expressed outrage over the ongoing violence in Minnesota.

A nurse anesthetist in Florida vowed to refuse anesthesia to Trump supporters.

In a rare political statement, former President Barack Obama wrote: “The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.”

Maryland hairstylist who dragged girl, 15, across salon floor gets her sentence

A Maryland hairstylist was sentenced to 5 years in prison, with all but 6 months suspended for dragging a client across the salon floor in a dispute over a $150 payment.

Jayla A. Cunningham, 19, was convicted of second-degree assault in November after she was seen in video footage dragging a 15-year-old client at her salon.

Cunningham claimed the girl tried to leave the salon without paying for her services.

A jury convicted Cunningham of second-degree assault, which carries up to 10 years in prison.

Cunningham pleaded with the judge for mercy and no prison time.

“I really do regret what I did,” Cunningham told Judge Michael Pearson in Prince George’s County Circuit Court before he handed down the sentence. “Can you have faith in me? Can you believe in me that I am trying?”

Cunningham’s lawyer said her client already lost her business and her apartment. She begged the judge for leniency.

Judge Pearson said he couldn’t ignore the abuse he saw in the video. The viral video shows Cunningham dragging the girl across the salon floor by her hoodie.

“The disregard you showed that young lady on that day is unacceptable,” Pearson said. “I trust you’re going to learn from it.”

The judge ordered Cunningham to serve 6 months on home detention. She is not allowed to leave home without the court’s permission.

The teenager’s mother pressed charges against Cunningham after the video went viral.

The mother accused Cunningham of telling her daughter “not to move until I get my money.” She said Cunningham cut the weave out of her daughter’s hair with a pair of scissors.

Cunningham showed no remorse in an interview with FOX 5 DC after the incident.

“She ran – forget tried – she ran without paying me,” Cunningham told FOX 5 DC in March.

“I dragged her by her hood back into the salon until I could get paid or, you know, until the police come or until, you know, she let me take out the [weave], because it’s like she literally ran outside. Like she was about to be gone. I feel like if I didn’t do that, she would have been gone and I would have just never been paid.”

Jemele Hill says the Atlanta Falcons should have hired Deion Sanders because he’s Black

Jemele Hill sparked outrage after she said the Atlanta Falcons should have hired Deion Sanders because he’s Black, and not Kevin Stefanski, who’s white.

In her post, Jemele said Falcons fans are upset over Stefanski’s handling of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders when he was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

“They LOVE Deion in the ATL,” Jemele wrote.

“It’s a Black city, with one of the Blackest fan bases in the NFL, and they have a Black QB in their roster – so a lot of ATL fans are side-eying this hire. Stefanski isn’t going to get a honeymoon there.”

Sports journalist Jason Whitlock tweeted:

“We used to never talk about sports this way. Sports conversations have been degraded in the name of DEI.”

Stefanski was run out of Cleveland because he refused to start rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders until mid-season when rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was injured.

Jemele was recently criticized for backtracking on her statement about a reporter after finding out she was Black.

Jacksonville reporter Lynn Jones-Turpin told Jaguars head coach Liam Coen to “Hold your head up,” following the team’s loss in the NFL playoffs earlier this month.

Jemele tweeted: “That can’t be a reporter. Cause if so, I would not have used the term awesome.”

Jemele backtracked after Jaguars fans roasted her on X:

“What I would say to my fellow media members — and to the general public — is that if we’re going to have this much discourse about @JacksonvilleFP reporter Lynn Jones, the very least we could do is follow her publication on social media and subscribe. This is one of the few Black newspapers still in existence.”

The White House is facing backlash for tweeting a Photoshopped image of Minnesota attorney Nikema Levy Armstrong in federal custody.

The Photoshopped image shows Armstrong crying as she is being led away by a federal agent this week.

The White House captioned the image: “We do not tolerate attacks on places of worship.”

A community note on X (Twitter) advised that the photo has been “altered to make Nikema Levy Armstrong appear to be in distress.”

The community note further advised that Kristi Noem, the Director of Homeland Security, posted the original, unaltered photograph of Armstrong on her X account on Thursday.

Armstrong allegedly organized the anti-ICE protest at the Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday, January 18.

Protesters, including Don Lemon, rushed into the church and disrupted service because they believed one of the pastors was an ICE agent.

Armstrong was one of four people arrested this week under the federal Civil Rights Conspiracy statute 18 USC Section 241.

A judge blocked federal agents from arresting Lemon. The former CNN anchor has allegedly lawyered up after receiving notice that he will be arrested soon.

The Civil Rights Conspiracy statute makes it unlawful for two or more persons to injure, threaten, or intimidate a person in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

A conviction carries a statutory maximum of 10 years in prison. If death results from the unlawful action, the offense may be punishable by life in prison.

Karamo Brown fell out with his “Queer Eye” costars after his mother overheard them talking about him on a hot mic.

Karamo skipped a “CBS Mornings” interview with the cast ahead of the Season 10 premiere to “focus and protect” his mental health.

The TV host’s mom overheard cast members Jonathan Van Ness (left), Tan France (middle) and Antoni Porowski (2nd from right) talking about Karamo on a hot mic.

She was able to hear the discussion because a production assistant gave her headphones to wear while she visited with Karamo on the set of Netflix’s “Queer Eye.”

An insider told PEOPLE, Karamo’s “mom was on set and overheard them talking about Karamo and she let him know. It wasn’t meant to be gossiping or bullying but it caused a break in his relationship with Antoni, Tan and Jonathan.”

Karamo, 45, unfollowed all of his cast members except Bobby Berk on social media.

In a statement to Gayle King, Karamo said:

“I hope everyone remembers the main theme I have tried to teach them over the past decade, which is to focus on and to protect their mental health/peace from people or a world who seek to destroy it; which is why I can’t be there today.”

Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com

In his statement, Brown cited “years” of mental and emotional “abuse” and being “bullied” by the other cast members.

Karamo also pulled out of an interview with the cast on “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.” He addressed his absence through a video message:

“Just like the themes of this season, I’m modeling what I believe is most important, which I want to remind you all, love yourselves and protect yourselves. That’s why I’m here at home and not there.”

Karamo began his career on MTV’s “The Real World: Philadelphia” in 2004, and has hosted his own talk show, “Karamo.”

Colorectal cancer is now the deadliest cancer for people under 50: “No longer an old person’s disease”

Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death for people under age 50 in the United States. Colorectal cancer jumped from the 5th leading cause of death to No. 1 since the 1990s.

Doctors don’t know why colorectal cancer rates have surged among younger people in recent years.

Risk factors include lifestyle changes, diet, drugs, and the environment.

The evidence was published Thursday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

“We weren’t expecting colorectal cancer to rise to this level so quickly, but now it is clear that this can no longer be called an old person’s disease,” Dr. Ahmedin Jemal, senior author of the study and senior vice president of surveillance said in a news release.

Studies show lung cancer dropped from 1st to 4th and leukemia dropped from third to fifth, according to the report. Breast cancer remained the first leading cause of cancer death among women and the second-leading cancer death overall.

“Today’s news confirms what experts have been predicting for years, as we witnessed young-onset colorectal cancer rates rising quickly and claiming too many lives,” Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, said in a news release.

Colorectal cancer screening is recommended to begin by age 45 for average-risk adults.

Signs & Symptoms of Colorectal Cancer

Blood in the stool is the No. 1 sign of rectal cancer. Also black, tarry stool are signs of old blood from higher up in the intestines.

Always consult your doctor if you see blood in the toilet bowl or black stool after a bowel movement.

Other signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer include:

  • Changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Pain in the rectum while defecating
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Digestive problems like stomach ulcers
  • Feeling the urge to defecate after a bowel movement
  • These signs and symptoms can also be signs of chronic diseases like Chron’s disease, Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and hemorrhoids.

“Things like diarrhea and constipation are so general that they could be due to many possible causes,” said gastroenterologist David Richards, M.D. “None of them necessarily means that you have colorectal cancer.”

“Any time symptoms persist for longer than two weeks, they are cause for concern,” he added. “That’s particularly true if they’re accompanied by abdominal pain, bloody stools or unintentional weight loss.”

“Some symptoms, such as rectal bleeding, black stools, and anemia (pale skin, feeling tired all the time), should prompt a visit to your doctor, if they haven’t already been evaluated.”

Michelle Obama Faces Backlash After Urging Boycott of White Designers

Former first lady Michelle Obama faces outrage for allegedly urging a boycott of white designers. Michelle faced criticism for allegedly urging women to boycott white-owned clothing brands.

In a recent conversation hosted by Storehouse and Friends, Obama spoke about being mindful when shopping for clothes, especially women who have the means to support fashion designers who are people of color.

But Obama’s critics changed her words to imply she urged women to boycott white-owned designers.

Political commentator Danielle D’Souza Gill, wife of U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill, tweeted: “Michelle, that skirt you’re wearing wouldn’t happen to be this $1,185 skirt made by Emilia Wickstead, a white designer, would it? Hypocrite much?”

Political commentator Avery Daye also called out Mrs. Obama on X (Twitter). Daye criticized Obama for wearing a skirt designed by a white designer.

“Michelle Obama urges women not to buy from white-owned brands… while wearing a $1,185 skirt created by a white designer. Michelle Obama is a privileged racist hypocrite who hates white people,” she tweeted.

X user @lilysm1965 wrote: “Maybe it is time for white owned brands to stop doing business with her instead.”

Florida police are searching for a boy seen stomping a duck to death in disturbing video footage. Security footage shows the boy chasing the duck and stomping it to death.

The incident happened on January 18 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Security footage shows 2 children running after the bird before one child stopped and the other one continued to chase it.

The boy grabbed the duck with both hands and twisted its neck. He glanced around before stomping the bird 7 times and running off.

The horrified homeowner called 911 after spotting the child trespassing in her yard. She then turned the footage over to police, authorities told WSVN.

Detectives are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the boy’s arrest.

The incident probably isn’t his first time injuring or killing animals.

Neighbors are shaken by what happened in their neighborhood, which is full of ducks.

“I was appalled that that would even happen in this neighborhood, for that to happen and see the photo, it is obviously very bad,” neighbor Ross Schmidt told WSVN.

“You know, you don’t know what’s inside people’s minds, but it’s definitely a very big anger issue, and he wasn’t brought up right, or he wasn’t thinking properly,” Schmidt added.

Another nearby resident, identified as Jett, said he was horrified after seeing the video.

“I think the kid maybe have been abused or something. Because of that, they need to look into who the parents are,” he said.

Patrol cars were seen circling the neighborhood on Thursday, as police continue to look for the boy.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has since removed the disturbing footage from the Internet.

Police believe the incident may be a predictor of the boy’s future behavior.

Milwaukee’s notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer admitted he tortured and killed animals as a child.
