‘Destructive’ Snow Storm Headed for Georgia This Weekend

Georgians are preparing for a major snow storm that could knock out power and shut down highways this weekend. 1-3 inches of snow is possible when an arctic cold mass moves through Georgia.

According to forecasters, “destructive” snow and ice threatens Northern Georgia, including the Metropolitan Atlanta area. Lighter snowfall is expected in Central and Southern Georgia.

Atlanta will see a mix of winter weather on Friday, including snow and ice, making the commute home treacherous.

Travel is a major concern in Georgia as southern cities don’t have snow removal equipment or enough trucks to salt the roads.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s and 30s, meaning snow and ice will make roads slippery. Snow could weigh down power lines, causing widespread outages in the Atlanta area and the suburbs.

“This is extreme, even for this being the peak of winter,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Bryan Jackson.

Officials urge Georgians to prepare for power outages throughout the weekend. Residents should buy non-perishable food items such as water, packaged and canned food that can be stored at room temperature. Bread has a limited shelf life.

Djimon Hounsou’s baby mama is behind bars for punching him in the face during an eviction proceeding.

The “Gladiator” star told cops his baby mama, Ri’Za Marie Simpson, punched him in the face after he told her to vacate his Atlanta townhouse.

According to legal documents, obtained by TMZ, Djimon, 61, filed a police complaint back in December when Ri’Za, with whom he shares two children, punched him after he tried to evict her from his townhouse.

The Atlanta Police Department says Djimon told cops their kids were upstairs in the house when their mother allegedly punched their father. Police say the children didn’t see their mother attack their dad, but they may have heard the commotion.

Ri’Za and Djimon share son Fela and another child. They are pictured with Djimon’s son, Kenzo Hounsou (right) from a previous relationship with Kimora Lee.

The Atlanta Police Department finally acted on the complaint on Friday, January 16, when officers executed an arrest warrant at the townhouse and took Ri’Za into custody.

Ri’Za is charged with simple assault and obstruction for allegedly providing false information about her identity when officers showed up to arrest her.

Cops say Ri’Za’s kids were at home when she was served with an arrest warrant. Officers say they heard the children crying in the background when they pounded on the front door to serve the arrest warrant.

President Trump Did Not Fail to Recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day

President Trump is very busy these days. It isn’t easy capturing other world leaders and trying to takeover an entire country.

The president is so busy that he nearly forgot to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19.

Former presidents, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, recognized the federal holiday during their terms in office.

Trump also recognized MLK Day during his first term in office.

Trump faced widespread criticism from Democrats, the NAACP, and social media users who ranted across all platforms on Monday.

According to the Associated Press, Trump did not recognize January 19 as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in an official statement until 8:15 p.m. on Monday, while he attended the college football national championship game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Trump said in the proclamation:

“As President, I am steadfastly committed to ensuring that our country will always be guided by the same principles that Dr. King defended throughout his life and to upholding the timeless truth that our rights are not granted by government but endowed by Almighty God.”

What was Trump doing all day that he couldn’t recognize MLK Day until Monday night?

According to the AP, Trump spent the day golfing at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Then he watched the Indiana Hoosiers cap its undefeated season by beating the Miami Hurricanes 27-21 to win the national championship.

The fact that Trump’s MLK Day proclamation was almost an afterthought didn’t sit well with the NAACP.

USA Today reported NAACP President Derrick Johnson said in a statement that “Donald Trump has zero interest in uniting this country or recognizing its history and diversity.”

He continued: “Instead, he wants to pit us against each other so that we don’t pay attention to the fact that his net worth has more than doubled while families lose their health care and access to essential services.”

Don Lemon calls Nicki Minaj “homophobic,” asks ICE to deport her back to Trinidad

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is upset with rapper Nicki Minaj for calling him a homophobic slur after he and others stormed a church in Minnesota.

Lemon and other anti-ICE protesters stormed the Cities Church in St Paul, and accused the pastor of collaborating with ICE agents.

Video shows Lemon was embedded with the demonstrators before they stormed the church in St. Paul during Sunday service.

The incident prompted the Department of Justice (DOJ) to consider arresting Lemon under the FACE Act and the KKK Act for violating the rights of others to gather in religious worship.

The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) protects access to reproductive health clinics.

The KKK Act, also known as the Ku Klux Klan Act, protects groups against others who deprive them of their rights.

Nicki Minaj was among those calling for Don Lemon’s arrest. She called him a “thug” and a nasty homophobic slur that sent him into a rage.

In a TikTok video on Monday, the highly emotional podcaster called Nicki “homophobic” and suggested she be deported back to her native Trinidad and Tobago.

“I usually don’t respond to this stuff, but let me just say this. Nicki Minaj, stop talking about s–t which you know nothing about. This is out of your depth, by the way. And you are a homophobic bigot,” he said.

“You don’t care about African Americans, you’re not an African American. From what I know, you are reportedly an undocumented citizen, so you should be deported under Donald Trump’s rule.”

Nicki has lived in the United States since she was 5 years old. She pays her taxes and is a homeowner in California.

Nicki lost fans over her support of President Trump, Erika Kirk and the conservative movement in the U.S.

Lemon brought up Nicki’s brother, who is in prison for assaulting an underage girl, and Nicki’s husband, Kenneth Petty, in his rant.

“You have one family member who is a sex offender, the other family member… is reportedly a pedophile. And you have the nerve to talk about me?” Lemon said.

“Nicki Minaj, get a life, stop being a pick-me,” he continued. “You are a pick-me. And I choose not to pick you, and so should Black people, and so should gay people, shouldn’t buy your music. Clock that.”

Sneaker News

LeBron James and Nike released a sneaker colorway that honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day (January 19).

The shoe’s colorway depicts the colors of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, where King was assassinated on April 4, 1968. The motel is now the National Civil Rights Museum.

Nike promoted the $210 sneaker as “LeBron James’ 23 ‘Honor the King’ Nikes Remember MLK Jr. & the Lorraine Motel.”

Also, the shoe commemorates LeBron scoring 51 points in an NBA game in Memphis.

David Dennis Jr. (@DavidDTSS) was outraged by the “capitalism” of the Lorraine Motel.

“Absolutely disgraceful move by all parties involved. I don’t even know where the money is going,” David said in a video. “This is just bad marks all around for everybody involved. Disgraceful, disgusting act. And I hope that they can figure out some kind of way to right this wrong.”

In other LeBron news, the NBA’s all-time scoring leader was not named a starter in the All-Star game for the first time in 21 years.

As of Tuesday morning, LeBron was not selected to play in the All-Star game, breaking a streak that began in 2005.

Kim Kardashian trademarks North West dolls, toys, merchandise

Kim Kardashian filed to trademark North West dolls, toys and other merchandise.

According to The U.S. Sun, the proud mom-of-4 filed to trademark North West’s name for dolls, clothing, play-sets, puzzles, party games and even puppets.

Kim’s lawyer filed multiple extensions in the trademark process, which is still pending.

The delay is probably due to the fact that northwest is a direction between north and west and a point on a compass.

It’s probably just as difficult to trademark northeast, southeast or southwest.

According to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office documents obtained by The U.S. Sun, Kim first filed to trademark her eldest child’s name in 2023.

North West’s fans point out that pop singer Beyoncé also filed to trademark her eldest child, Blue Ivy’s name soon after her much-hyped birth.

There was a delay in the process because another woman disputed the trademark filing since she owned a wedding planning company called Blue Ivy.

Beyonce described Blue Ivy as a “fashion and cultural icon” in 2019 when Blue was only 7 years old.

Beyoncé finally won the right to trademark her daughter Blue Ivy’s name after a lengthy 12-year legal battle.

As of December 31, 2024, Beyoncé is free to license Blue Ivy’s name on a wide range of products, including toys, clothing, shoes, and other merchandise that have not yet gone to market.

WNBA star Sophie Cunningham makes shocking announcement: “I have herpes”

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham shocked WNBA fans on Sunday by announcing: “I have herpes.”

The 29-year-old Fever guard made the stunning announcement during a podcast on Jan. 18.

After joking about sharing ChapStick at a youth basketball tournament, Sophie told her co-host West Wilson, “Don’t kiss me. I have herpes.”

The video was viewed nearly 4 million times on X/Twitter.

Sophie has oral herpes, not genital herpes. But the damage to her reputation is done.

Until Sunday, Sophie was a pinup model and the woman of men’s dreams. She was nearly as popular as her superstar teammate Caitlin Clark.

Sophie’s name was the most searched for female athlete on Google.com in 2025.

Her jerseys and other merchandise sold out, and fans lined up to meet her at Indiana Fever events.

Sophie became an overnight sensation when she stepped up to defend Caitlin Clark from WNBA bullies during a game in June 2025.

Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon got in Caitlin’s face and Caitlin shoved her away. Later, Sophie and Jacy got tangled up in the paint and Sophie body slammed her.

A brawl ensued and several players, including Cunningham and Sheldon, were ejected from the game. The Fever went on to win by a score of 88-71, and a star was born.

Sophie’s announcement may have killed her lucrative sponsorships. The best she can hope for now is a sponsorship for cold sore medications.

Parades and special events will mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day in America on Monday, Jan. 19, as Americans remember the slain civil rights leader.

Government buildings, bank, public parks and schools are closed today. Museums and visitor’s centers are also closed, but the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta is open.

The holiday was signed into law by President Ronald Regan in 1983. It was officially observed as a holiday 3 years later.

King was born in Atlanta on Jan. 15, 1929. He was killed by a gunman on April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39.

Atlantans observed MLK Day with a series of special events over the weekend and today. The sites that make up the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park & Preservation District are open today.

After several years of renovations, MLK’s Birth Home reopened to the public last year. The Birth Home tour begins at 10:00 am and the last tour is 5:00 pm. The 30-minute tour is conducted every hour (7 days a week).

The King Center advises visitors to get there early to avoid the long lines on King Day. Only 10 persons are permitted on one tour. Groups can reserve up to three spaces (30 persons) the day of their tour.

The address is 501 Auburn Avenue, NE., Atlanta, GA 30312. Call 404-331-6922 for information.

Dr. Bernice King, MLK’s youngest child, called for “urgency” as she announced plans for MLK Day in Atlanta 2 weeks ago.

Dr. King called King Day a “saving grace” as the world is seemingly on the brink of another world war.

“This is not the hour to shrink. This is the hour to rise,” Bernice King said during the annual news conference ahead of the 2026 King holiday observance.

“We are living in a time when violence, displacement and dehumanization are being normalized,” she said, before referring to the ICE shooting of a 37-year-old mother in Minnesota as “heartbreaking and unacceptable.”

“People are anxious, weary, retreating into silos, tribes… and echo chambers because despair has convinced them that hope is naive and community is impossible,” she said.

Former Nickelodeon star’s father speaks out after her hit-and-run death: “Did anyone try to comfort my baby?”

The father of former Nickelodeon child star Kianna Underwood spoke out after she was killed in a hit-and-run at age 33.

Kianna was run over by a motorist who fled the scene in Brooklyn, N.Y., in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 16.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department (NYPD) said in a statement to PEOPLE that Kianna was first struck around 6:40 a.m. by a black 2021 Ford Explorer SUV “operated by an unidentified individual.”

The SUV crossed over the yellow line and was driving “counterflow” to traffic when it hit Kianna, as she crossed the street at a marked crosswalk at Pitkin Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard.

As she lay in the road, Kianna was run over again by a black and gray sedan, the NYPD told PEOPLE. Both drivers left the scene.

No arrests have been made and police have no suspects.

In a now-deleted post on Saturday, January 17, Kianna’s father wondered if anyone was there to “comfort” his dying daughter.

“So this one time [my partner] Tia Ynvme Taylor and I were in the Catskills and we saw this fox on the road,” he wrote.

“I could tell it had been hit. It was a dangerous curved road and I contemplated moving our car into the middle of the road so it wouldn’t get hit again. But before I could do anything someone came around the corner and didn’t slow down when I started flashing my high beams. So the driver ran over the fox, I remember the horror I felt when I saw that.”

He continued:

“Another driver pulled over and picked the fox up who was still alive and put it on the side of the road. All I can think about is did anyone show my baby that same compassion, as someone ran her over like roadkill. Did anyone try to comfort my baby as she layed [sic] dying in the street alone, or did they just stand around with their phones.”

Other sources online say Kianna was homeless when she died.

Kianna was a child actor who appeared on Season 10 of Nickelodeon’s “All That” and many other TV shows and films, including a minor role in “Death of a Dynasty,” starring Kevin Hart.

Update: April D’s Stage 4 Triple Negative Breast Cancer Story (Video)

CBS’ daytime soap opera “Beyond the Gates” brings awareness to Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) through Anita Dupree’s storyline.

Some cancer survivors wonder why Anita wasn’t advised to undergo a double mastectomy as a treatment option for triple-negative breast cancer.

A double mastectomy is necessary because TNBC is a very aggressive disease with a high chance of reoccurrence even if chemotherapy shrinks the tumor to nothing.

Cancer tends to reoccur because TNBC spreads faster and has fewer treatment options than other breast cancers.

Photo of Tamara Tunie as Anita Dupree

Actress Tamara Tunie is excellent as matriarch Anita Dupree who is diagnosed with the most aggressive form of breast cancer.

But it’s important to remember that “Beyond the Gates” is just entertainment.

Don’t expect a daytime TV show to educate you about breast cancer. Speak to your doctor or other cancer survivors for the most accurate information. And do your own research to find the treatment option that is best for you.

TNBC is around 15-20% of all breast cancers.

Photo of April Donaldson

Update: I was informed yesterday that April didn’t survive. She passed away on July 31, 2025 at age 46.

April D. underwent a double mastectomy and total hysterectomy after being diagnosed with TNBC at age 40.

April was diagnosed with TNBC after she found 4 lumps along the side of her left breast.

In the video below, courtesy of The Patient Story, April walks the viewer through her experience with TNBC and chemotherapy. She talks about holding off on having the surgeries until she gave birth to her last child.

April tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, which means she had to undergo a double mastectomy plus remove her ovaries and uterus as the first line of treatment.

Just 5 months later, the aggressive cancer returned. April was devastated to learn she has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that spread to her lungs.

Throughout her journey, April has leaned heavily on her faith, grace, and gratitude. She finds joy in her family, and setting future goals.

She wanted to share her story to encourage other cancer patients to have hope and know they can get through this difficult journey.
