Is Prince WIlliam wrong to give Kate Princess Diana’s ring?

Today, Prince Williams and his fiancée Kate Middleton made their first official appearance together since announcing their engagement.

When he popped the question, Prince William gave Kate the same engagement ring that his father, Prince Charles, gave to his deceased mother, Princess Diana.

The ring is now a family heirloom and is the most precious piece in the royal family’s collection of jewels. Prince Charles paid $65,000 for it when he married Princess Diana in 1981.

Jewelry expert Michael O’Connor tells UsMagazine.com the same style ring today would be valued at about $150,000.

“It is very special to me,” William told the press at St. James’ Palace today. “It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.

The timing is right now, we are both very, very happy.”

This is not the same storybook romance that occurred between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. William and Kate’s 8-year relationship hasn’t exactly been Camelot. The couple split up at least half a dozen times over the last 8 years.

It seems like a foolish choice to give an unpredictable woman a precious piece of jewelry that holds such historic significance. Especially since it once belonged to his dearly departed mother.

What if Kate decides to break up with him again and refuses to give back the ring? Then what?

I haven’t read the post so I don’t know if this has been said…

I’ve watched many court shows and an engagement ring is a CONDITIONAL GIFT so if the terms of the CONDITION is not met (meaning them getting married) then she will have to return the gift. It usually depends on where you are because some places have different laws but more than likely she’ll have to retun it.

It was his mother’s ring, why wouldn’t he want to give it to his fiance’. Also they had to grow up. They have dated for over six yrs and they are still young. Do ppl get married at 19 these days? Diana was the “Peoples Princess”. She knew she was only chosen for her youth, looks and innocence.(To give her husband a few heirs. She knew her husband was in love w/Camille. I can only imagine. My second pregnancy was a surprise and I was depressed, I was on BC. I wasnt ready for another just yet, but when I started having difficulties it changed my mind. That was the main reason I tied them…both pregnancies I started contracting at 5 or 5 1/2 months. I was on bedrest 14 weeks with the one in my gravi.

There are two sides to every story. I know Prince William is his Fathers son(or at least that’s what it says on his birth certificate), and he is his mothers child. Why couldn’t it be that she bailed out because she knew he wasn’t ready yet and wanted to take more time. Not every little girl grows up wanting to marry a Prince.

@ Man………….I had surgury for scoliosis when I was 13. They corrected it but, they took a bone from the back of my hip for marrow so right where my back curves to my a$$, I have a scar. I didn’t think that was too cute so, I had it covered.
