Will Smith Says his kids won’t ‘break’ under the weight of independence
Superstar actor Will Smith responded to reporters’ questions about his wildly independent children. Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s kids, Willow and Jaden, are allowed the autonomy to raise themselves, in accordance with their Scientology religious beliefs.
The rapper-turned-actor told the Columbus Dispatch he was finding it difficult to adjust to competing with his own children for the spotlight.
“It happens all the time now. I’ll be out, and someone will run up and say, ‘Tell Willow I love her video for Whip My Hair,” Smith said.
The 43-year-old big kid bristles at suggestions that his kids are too grown, or that Willow’s dismissive attitude about education will make her socially awkward.
Will says he often discusses the effects of stardom on his youngest children with wife Jada.
“Jada and I talk about whether you pull back during the teenage years,” he said. “I lump the responsibility on them. I give them as much weight as they can hold without breaking.
“I’ll keep doing this until they can hold the weight of their lives.”

And Tre seems to be a wonderfully well mannered adjusted young man, I used to attribute this to Will (with him taking custody and all that) but clearly that comes from his mother. Not saying Will had nothing to do with it, just saying that the way that boy was raised vs the way Jada and Will are raising the younger ones speaks volumes. BTW I’m pretty sure Jaden is on drugs of some type and it’s so obvious and makes me so mad. I get that kids experiment but there’s no reason for a 15 year old (is he 15?) to be on the red carpet looking that blowed every time you see him. Honestly, idk if they are scientologists are or not and I doubt anyone will ever have real confirmation of that because if they were to come out as a part of the church of scientology they will hit a backlash far worse than Tom Cruise did. Black folks will put up with alot from their stars but not that
Most white folks don’t even embrace that cult which is why their members don’t come out (except Tom Cruise and John Travolta and Tom damn near lost his career) BUT they are highly involved in that whole scene and so some of those parenting tactics have likely rubbed off on them. Not to mention that Jada didn’t have the most structured childhood herself and may feel as if since she made it her children will make it too

From what I understand Scientology is a way of life, not just a religion…so yes you can have your own chosen faith but still follow the basic rules of Scientology. I think it gets complicated though when they try to reach the ultimate levels of Xenu and I think they find ways to mix shyt around (because let’s face it, all the Church of Scientology cares about is money)
