Another professional athlete’s marriage bites the dust. The wife of former Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones filed for divorce following his Christmas day arrest for assaulting her.
Jones, 35, was arrested in Atlanta early Christmas morning and charged with domestic battery, according to jail records obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The AJC reports that Nicole Derick-Jones, of Duluth, called police after the former Braves center fielder allegedly choked her and threatened to kill her. In her divorce filing, Mrs. Jones said the couple’s bonds of matrimony were “irretrievably broken.”
Andruw Jones was arrested and released from jail on $2,400 bond that same day.
Nicole Jones is seeking ample child support, alimony, the couple’s Duluth property, and full custody of the couple’s nine-year-old son. Mrs. Jones also wants a judge to void the couple’s iron-clad prenuptial agreement.
In 17 seasons as a center fielder for the Braves, Jones won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves and had 434 career home runs.
Last month Jones signed a $3.5 million, one-year contract to play in Japan’s Pacific League.
Nicole Jones teamed up with Jermaine Dupri’s former personal assistant, Chantel Watkins, to launch the HONESTY Jewelry line in 2009, after So So Def went belly up and Watkins was let go along with other longterm staffers.
