Maia Campbell

Troubled former actress Maia Campbell declined rapper/actor LL Cool J‘s offer to help her after a man posted a video of her on social media over the weekend.

The man who uploaded the video said the 40-year-old was strung out on drugs and begging for money in exchange for sex.

“If anyone has a contact on Maia pls (sic) let me know…” LL wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post. He also tweeted: “@MaiaCampbell Please DM (direct message) me when/if you see this.”

Campbell starred in LL’s ’90s sitcom In The House. She was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as a young adult. Her late mother, author Bebe Moore Campbell, wrote about Campbell’s struggles with mental illness in a book.

In a grainy video uploaded to social media on Tuesday, Campbell is seen pacing the floor at a hair salon in an Atlanta suburb.

“Hey, Todd. Look bro, I love you, but, I don’t need help, I just need a benefit concert for mental health,” she said in the video.

“Don’t DM me, it’s really me… I’m in the shop that I pimp at, or whatever,” she said.

As she spoke, the former actress held her hand over her mouth to conceal a missing tooth.

“I’m doing good, my show is called ‘From the Bottom Up,” she said, referring to her appearance on Centric’s reality TV show last November.

“Don’t call me, I’ll call you,” she said, as the cameraman asked her how LL could contact her.

“Pray to God that I don’t start rapping,” she added.

According to WENN.com, she then insisted the actor already had her mother’s phone number.

It’s not known if LL managed to speak to Campbell or her mom directly, but the NCIS: Los Angeles actor has since returned to Twitter and suggested his efforts went ignored.

“You can’t help someone who doesn’t want your help,” he tweeted late on Monday.

  • Please Stop The Madness

I saw this last night. makes me believe what I read years ago about her. Her dad and her aunt were trying to help her get right. Make her take meds etc and she put a restraining order out on them. she doesnt want the help.

  • ThottyPippen

But her mom is….dead. How is LL suppose to contact her??

There’s only so much anyone can do for an adult. I just hope she gets the help she needs before we’re reading a head line with a worse title.

  • Please Stop The Madness

not known if LL managed to speak to Campbell or her mom directly

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Umm how he gonna speak to Ms. BeBe? She managed to die. He calling the afterlife to see if she available?

  • Yardgirl

OMG this is so sad!! You cannot help someone who does not want your help and unfortunately the law is on their side. It’s like a slow trainwreck coming towards you and you cannot stop it from happening. Dang.

  • Tish

Maybe the number her mom had at the house hasn’t changed the way I took it.

  • Tish

Her family had the police pick her up. She was placed in Dekalb County until her family got to her. They arranged it. I think her aunt or godmother are out there too.

  • Jessica

Come on Maia. You can overcome. Please seek help.

  • RaginB

When I was younger I use to have the biggest girl crush on maia Campbell…crazy how life works…it’s ok to ask for help!

  • Phillybruh

Stop helping because it makes you feel good. He has known of this girls mental status before facebook live videos.

  • Tish

I think she may have meant the number is still the same at house the mom lived in with her husband.

  • Coy little wink

But how does the police just pick an adult up?

  • Blak

That video was all kind of sad.

  • Jessica

She was so beautiful on “In The House”.

  • Jessica

    72 hour hold.

  • Phillybruh

Its only because of the Video, they had to have known she was off her meds for a long time.

  • ThottyPippen

I think she was just rambling. It seemed that she was getting very irritated with the guy doing the recording, asking how LL can get in touch with her.

  • Please Stop The Madness

Both were. I wont be looking at anymore.

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

Maia was such a stunner back in the day on “In the House”. I hate to see her go through this. She’s in my prayers.

  • ThottyPippen

As far as the family is concerned, I can’t/won’t make any judgments about them. Many of us have a family member, friend of the family, or know of the neighborhood “crackhead”. Most of the time we are absorbed in our own lives, that we look at their behavior as “normal”, until something happens that makes us take action.

  • TOO REAL

Just be prepared to go to the funeral.

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com/ Ms.Devereaux

Or because you got called out on it!!!

  • Please Stop The Madness

She has a long history of running when help is offered to her.

  • Please Stop The Madness

Write up basically said dont know if her mama picked up the phone.

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com/ Ms.Devereaux

I was gone say I read somewhere that her mom was dead

  • Jessica

Her family has tried over and over to help her.

  • Please Stop The Madness

Even when something happens there is little legally you can do. My little sister has been off and on drugs and is also bipolar. My dad died a long time alcoholic who made VERY poor money decisions. Courts STILL said he is of sound mind. No action until the VERY end. I do mean very. the last 8 months of his life. We had been in court for YEARS trying to get some kind of control of his affairs while he pissed away a sizeable nest egg. Same thing with my sister. You cant MAKE an adult medicate unless they are a danger to someone else. Then the court can step in and legally mandate they do. Not even a danger to themselves is a priority. Someone else.

  • Coy little wink

U have to be homicidal or suicidal for that

  • ThottyPippen

I know, this is really a general statement and for the ones that question where her family is.

  • http://ivyleaguelove.tumblr.com/ Applebootay

Sad. Mental Illness is real. 99% of the time, the mentally ill turn to drugs to self medicate. Sad. Sad. Sad.

  • KarmaBackAround

Dear LL, maybe dont throw shade at folks who TOLD u she aint want any help. Guess u had to find out the hard way!

  • tintin

hollywood turning all these stars into fiends

  • lil goodie

Can’t the courts force her into a treatment facility seeibf she is a danger to herself by her history and current actions??? Is
A cry for help is not always a cry…

  • BeUtFullSoul

SAD…I wish someone, anybody would just Physically pick her butt up and take her to a facility that she CAN NOT check herself out of and get her some HELP.,,,but I know , I KNOW..you CAN help people that don’t want to be HELPED.

  • lil goodie

Having g sex for drugs is suicidal??????? Plus she’s mental … Jesus be her shield

  • Blaque Mahogany

She is a mentally ill self medicating junkie, this should come as a surprise to no one. It’s a constant battle. It’s extremely difficult for people with a support system and no mental health issues, it is 20x as hard for someone like her.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

It’s funny how people want to put a guilt trip on LL, as if he’s responsible for her.

  • KarmaBackAround

Her and lark voorhies..i cannot believe it! those 2 black beauties…

  • MissyJ

No one did that until Mr. LL tried to guilt trip somebody else…

  • Ro

This is so sad! Beauty and talent gone to waste.

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

    Yes Lark was too.

  • Ni Ni

We need more mental health facilities. These people have nowhere to go and are just left wandering around the streets. They wont take their meds on their own and family members are not equipped to deal with them.

  • Blaque Mahogany

I really didn’t feel like he was guilt tripping the guy, but making a point about the man humiliating and recording her at her lowest. I have always hated videos of people recording crackheads after making them do things or filming homeless people fighting, etc.

  • SummerBaby

According to WENN.com, she then insisted the actor already had her mother’s phone number.

It’s not known if LL managed to speak to Campbell or her mom directly, but the NCIS: Los Angeles actor has since returned to Twitter and suggested his efforts went ignored.
    ………….
Wait hold up! ? Who wrote this? Her Mom is deceased & has been for quite some time.

  • MissyJ

I don’t like the videos either I don’t watch WSHH videos of them but this isn’t her first, dude had other ones on his page this one blew up. She asks to be recorded.

  • Latisaj

It said her late mother so is she dead or alive?

  • MissyJ

I’m thinking/hoping she has a play mom.. Or she talking about Debbie Allen or something

  • JerseyMom

A stranger helped her get help according to Fameolous dot com.

  • Tink Tink

The write up is incorrect (her mom is deceased), I think Maia was trying to say that her mom’s number hasn’t changed (maybe she still lives there).

  • Ni Ni

    Her mom is dead.

  • SummerBaby

I said the same thing above.

  • MissyJ

Sadly the meds just making people dayum near comatose rather than “normal” so that’s why a lot refuse to take them. Live life asleep or just live life in your mental normal

  • KarmaBackAround

Its a difference tho when you ASKED to be recorded..he even gave her some money..

  • Connie

    I said the same thing!

  • SummerBaby

I can almost get with her saying call my mama house, but the write up saying we don’t know if contact was made ?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

She is being helped … Move along folks… Best bet is to not judge this woman ….

  • SummerBaby

    Her mom is deceased.

  • Benita Renee’

Since 2006 she’s one of my favorite authors. RIP Bebe Moore Campbell…

  • Ni Ni

Thats true, i thought about that aspect after i typed my comment. This really is a spiritual issue but society is not willing to deal with that part.

  • Phillybruh

My sister-n-law opts not to take her medication, we have tried for years to get her help. Finally the family had to let her go. Last we heard she was in a mental facility in NY. When she has moments when the psychosis will give her a break it last for a very short time. She’s not a drug addict, just in the throws of her mental illness.

  • SummerBaby

It’s incorrect to the point of insensitivity to me.

  • Ni Ni

Unless she was referring to a stepmom…

  • Yardgirl

Truth!! A friend, very intelligent but schizophrenic could not be helped no matter what the family did. He finally killed someone and then the courts stepped in. The laws are fcuked up!! SMH

  • Benita Renee’

Yes they have, her mother’s book The 72 hour hold is loosely based on her struggle with her daughter’s mental illness/drug abuse.

  • Mbailey

MENTAL illness runs in her family, and she is mentally ill. What is the excuse of those making fun of her for her sad behavior, associated with this illness, Sandra?

  • Yardgirl

She was one of mine too! RIP Bebe.

  • Ni Ni

I was wondering if there was history of this in her family.

  • hottlanta

LL is not obligated to help her. She is not his child nor his wife. He has nothing to feel guilty about because he has carved out a good life for himself. Those people complaining about LL not helping her let her move in with you, steal all your money and have your house, mind and finances is such a disarray you can’t get any rest. I told my little Hots I don’t want to get up one day and hear about her being dead. LL owes her nothing. If that is the case everyone she has worked with on the set owes her. Debbie Allen was Executive Producer what does she owe her. Her daughter is suffering seeing her mom like that. She outlined her mental illness with Vanzant and it broke my heart. I didn’t know she had a mental illness and that showed me that you never know a person’s struggle until they talk about it.

  • Phillybruh

I don’t think its that at all. Her mental illness isn’t new. Don’t wait to help her until you see it on FB.

  • Renee26

Sad…she used to be so beautiful! He’s right you can’t help someone that doesn’t want it….he could have helped get her back on track and turn her life around

  • SingleGalCrazyWorld

Maia hasn’t been right since Ms. Bebe died. Had the pleasure of meeting both a few times. LL is right tho you cant help someone who doesnt want the help. I think whoever is doing those videos is just pimping this poor woman out. She hasn’t hit her rock bottom yet…

  • SummerBaby

I really don’t know or care if LL’s offer to help are genuine or not. Help is help & she needs it. Not now, but right now! The fact is she’s not going to seek it or accept any offers of help until she’s ready.

  • Mbailey

HER now deceased mother suffered from it too.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Well, like I told y’all the other day, LL could have helped her long ago–if he wanted to.

What Maia SHOULD have said, were she not cracked out of her mind, is she doesn’t want him using her for publicity. Because that’s what he was actually doing.

It disgusted me how the mainstream media picked up on this story and made LL seem like he was some kind of Knight In Shining Armor. He was more than willing to ignore her and here’s the proof–he’d already been doing it for years anyway.

Maia, like I said, may be a lost cause. If she isn’t, then she’ll need to save herself. Help, when it comes to addiction, is dependent upon how far the addict is willing to go to redeem his or her own damn self first.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

Author, BeBe Moore (may she rest in love) wrote the book 72 Hour Hold. I actually read the book before i knew that Mia Campbell was BeBe Moore’s daughter, which i didn’t learn until BeBe’s passing. I now know that the book was in fact their story. The story is heartbreaking, but becomes a story of victory and endurance in the end. The character doesn’t become better in the end, but they do learn to coop with the illness. Very honest work. I am huge BeBE Moore fan, and include her along the talents of California Cooper and Delores Philips….by the way if you are looking for an awesome summer read or vacation read…Check out “The Darkest Child” By Delores Phillips….I guarantee you won’t put it down…

  • shun king

how i know atlanta you got plenty of wanna be rappers and people looking for exposure hunting for that chick right now expect to see sex tapes or anything else now about her folks think she going to be a come up SMH

  • hottlanta

Just because you work with someone doesn’t mean you have a close relationship. I work with folks everyday and keep it moving. We don’t know whether or not throughout the years whether or not he has tried to help her behind the scenes. Not everyone gets on Facebook and say I wrote a check today to help so and so That is his right not to if he wishes. I stand by what I said he OWES her nothing.

  • Ni Ni

    Aahhh…

  • hottlanta

Why are you speaking of LL as a primary male figure in her life and no one has mentioned her father and all of the male figures in her family. Mom had sex with somebody to produce her. LL is not responsible for her. He had every right to ignore her for years if he chose to. She is not his responsibility.

  • hottlanta

I told my Lil Hots last night how men where having sex with her because they knew who she was. Thank God she hasn’t had any more kids.

  • Evillene

    So sad…

  • imright

wasnt she on a reality show recently…? edit-the show is- From The Bottom Up

  • JerseyNikki

I agree. I suffer from Bipolar II and I recently stopped taking my meds. It keeps you in a fog. I couldn’t do day to day activities. I loss my libido, interest in things I once enjoyed doing, etc. I would take them and sleep the day away. Unlike Maia, I don’t self medicate. I see my psychiatrist once a week, record my feelings down and take things one day at a time.

  • Wreckognize Game

Yes, I’ve read this book by Delores Phillips. You are correct

  • Rayne

Yea she’s totally out there now.

  • Evillene

How do we know this is the first time he has ever tried to reach her and that he felt that a PUBLIC call out to her would help>

  • Capricornlady

    Poor baby:(
I wonder if she’s speaking of a mother figure in her life or does she really believe her mom is still alive? OMG this just breaks my heart.

  • cottonscandyheary
  • cottonscandyheary

Her stepdad raised her not her bio father. He is getting up in age and already taking care of BeBe Moore mother. You dont here anything about him anymore, makes you wonder if he passed. Mia daughter should be grown, do she have any contact with her now.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

Why do you think he could have done so (helped her out a long time ago)? Because he has money? She was just on TV 6months ago. She was functioning and attempting to heal her addiction. He asked for the girl’s number which is an indication he didn’t know where she was. And what about Debbie Allen, or her stepfather for that matter? LL just happen to respond to a video. If money is all a drug addict needed to get better or to get help, all addicts would be poor and we wouldn’t have rich addicts. Don’t blame Mainstream media, for that could very well be her save and grace….if you want to blame someone, blame the asshole who was trying to get clicks and likes on his social media…at the end of the day, as long as she is breathing…she is no one’s lost cause.

  • Capricornlady

I loved The darkest child! Did you read Perfect Peace? by Daniel Black… it too is a good read

  • cottonscandyheary

They were all close on in the house,so talk what you know.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

Her stepfather has not passed away. He is still alive and kicking it. Understand that he has been in her life since she was a child….he is the father in her life…

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

omg Capricornlady wasn’t The Darkest Child an awesome read!!!!! I was Transported in time…i felt every emotion of that book. Its one of favorite books in my library…I in fact don’t loan it out to anyone..,I will check out perfect peace too…thank you!!

  • PlayerP

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

She was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

    BOTH! ZAMN!

  • JerseyNikki

She did interviews where she states she was only diagnosed with Bipolar disorder.

  • Yardgirl

    Exactly!!??

  • Peter Piper ATL

I think you’re missing the point. For starters, maybe you should tell LL what you told me. Because i’m thinking he could have just said “Sorry, I Already Tried” and there would be no need for further discussion. But he put himself in the situation by asking for contact info and all I’m saying is his reasons for doing so were self serving.

That considered, all the rest of the stuff you’re talking about is irrelevant dear.

  • Peter Piper ATL

    You’re also missing the point.

Maybe you need to tell LL all that because it was he himself who put himself front and center in this whole thing.

Do I think she’s his responsibility? No, and frankly, I don’t care either way because that’s not the point. Watch carefully:

The point is, had LL not inserted himself into the situation, then you and I would not be having this discussion. He could have taken your advice and not assumed any responsibility and then you’d have nothing to say.

But he didn’t. And the underlying point I’m illustrating is his motive for doing so, which you clearly seem to have missed.

  • Renee Bee

Sweet Jesus cover her in your blood.

  • hottlanta

They were working together. Things happen over the years. Close doesn’t mean every time you get in trouble I bail you out.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Well then maybe he should have just kept his mouth shut instead of using her to gain applause for a supposed good deed. He could have ignored Instagram the same way he ignored her issues all this time.

So you should remind him of the fact he’s a celebrity with his own family and that he shouldn’t have volunteered his help at all because had he done that, you and I wouldn’t be having this chit chat, would we?

  • Carla

Remember Delonte West, who dated or was rumored to be dating Lebron James’ Mom? • hottlanta

LL doesn’t need to help her to elevate himself for us to think he is a good guy. He demonstrated his good guy deeds when he stood by his wife when she got sick. She is not his wife nor his daughter. He owes her nothing.

  • Oh Tommie

Is her mom deceased or not? Conflicting info in this write up.

  • hottlanta

    Stop playing.

  • TeeTee

    Yes. That broke my heart.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Let me share something since y’all girls in the basement are missing all the points.

First off, NO, LL Cool J does not have any responsibility for this girl. I don’t think he’s been sitting there helping her smoke up all the dope so its really not his problem. He could have, and SHOULD have, ignored the Instagram drama and if he CHOSE to help, then he could have done so–PRIVATELY.

There was no need for him to make a scene on Instagram. He could have PRIVATELY asked for the girl’s info. But he DIDN’T. And he DIDN’T because he’s a narcissist.

LL was concerned that people would ask why he wasn’t helping her, and he also wanted to bask in the adulation that comes with him coming down from his mighty perch to rescue his crackhead ex-colleague and presumed friend. Case closed.

I hope this clarifies things for some of y’all. Lord knows some of you girls would miss the point of some of this celebrity mess if the point was to run butt naked across your living room floor!

She’s not referring to her mother. She’s referring to Debbie Allen, who was on the show and was a mother-figure to her. I want to say that Debbie and her real mother were friends before her mother passed away but my memory fails me on that part. If you read older articles though, you’ll see Debbie used to mentor her.

Is that you Jesus? Preaching from behind an avatar? In all seriousness, you’re real aggy over the mention of LL. Your issues seem personal. You posts paragraphs when all you’re really saying is that you feel like he should not have responded to this situation. He may be doing it for attention but there’s not enough shadiness to prove that. This situation would have still hit the media whether he spoke on it or not. This isn’t the first video of her and LL does not speak on every video. Maybe he’s wrong. Then again, so are you. You could’ve just sat by silently the way you advised him to. (kanye shrug)

Im not sure this is true. I dont put anything past anyone though. But LL was still very much a rapper trying to cross over in 1995. Will came on the SCENE already crossover act. So maybe Will Smith yes. Im not sure if LL had the power to blackball anyone in 1995. that is like saying Queen Latifah had the power to blackball someone on Living Single when Erika and Kim Fields were the more recognizable CROSSOVER stars from Cosby and Facts of Life. WE knew who she was. But the white folks who run sets and crew and production etc most likely had no clue

@PLEASEDontTellMe…thanks, I will look for “The Darkest Child” on Amazon….I love a good book! Peace.

  • Please Stop The Madness

    Bloop

  • speakinmymind

No, he didn’t but it’s inflammatory and gets the people going.

  • Renee26

    We need those receipts!

  • hottlanta

Since you wanted to be a bytch and bring the conversation to the front of the board for notoriety instead of being a grown azz man in the basement just having a normal conversation going back and forth. You accuse him of being narcissist for how he handled the situation you oughta know because you just did the same thing. This “girl” in the basement stand by what she said.

  • hottlanta

How did he get her blackballed. It wasn’t like she was on Angela Bassett, Regina King level getting work for movies.

  • hottlanta

You read Sugar OMG. I read the first 2 pages and had to put it down. Imma find This Bitter Earth. Thanks

  • Monique B

    Yes, she die of cancer.

  • Star

Girl, she lost touch before then. Her moms book “72 Hour Hold” is based on Maia.

  • hottlanta

OK don’t play that. I gotta turn my pages. I read Sistah Soljah book about her and her mom’s relationship and boy it was good. They used to have a book store at the West End Mall where all the books were $5.00, They had the best sellers I would have a bag full every time. When they closed down I cried. I tell people I have also gotten some good books to read at CitiTrend. I got the Oprah Winfrey coffee table book that sells for over $50.00 for $10.00. I got Maya Angelo, Michelle Obama and I even got a book about their dog Bo. I don’t know which book Imma take for my vacation this year.

  • speakinmymind

Not true. In this day and age of folks having diarrhea at the mouth, LL nor Jesus Christ could keep the supposed dirt a secret.

  • Harley

It IS true and it was reported many moons ago boo

  • Harley

Doesnt matter they had a dispute and he made sure she didnt work again. Thats how

  • speakinmymind

Right! Like I said earlier it’s inflammatory and folks pay attention to it and ask ‘well what happened then all we get is a bunch of innuendo, gossip and “they said”, he said/she said. No factual videotaped interviews, court depositions, etc. I call bullshit!

  • Justlooknout

Saw the bid, her tooth is out and everything. She was such a natural beauty.

  • http://ivyleaguelove.tumblr.com/ Applebootay

    Well Damn…

  • speakinmymind

People get close on set ALL the time then fall out of touch after they stop working together. It’s the same as working on a job with people then when you change jobs you lose touch over time. Why is that so hard to understand?

  • speakinmymind

There’s some not too bright folks in here.

  • http://ivyleaguelove.tumblr.com/ Applebootay

    What’s that?

  • http://ivyleaguelove.tumblr.com/ Applebootay

Beloved, Iyanla and her mom (Bebe-RIP) were friends. If Iyanla couldn’t help her, nobody can BUT Jesus! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/702b2b741a4f975bfc027a5ff3302e7dbb93ce1232f1f55a4f1d68ba6d9364e8.jpg

    Hollering! LMBO LOL

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

i will have to check out Sistah Soljah’s book about her mom..what is the title hot?

  • hottlanta

Yall always come through with the realness.

  • hottlanta

The book is call No Disrespect. It is a break from her Coldest Winter Ever trilogy. To read about her childhood was interesting. I gotta see do I have those books you mentioned I have so many by J. California Cooper. I read that book and felt as if she was talking about me and my mom. That is how real it was. I gotta find me a good vacation book with sex, sleaze and cheating so I can say “no he/she didn’t”.

  • hottlanta

That series right there made me cry. When she had her in the theatre and showed her a picture of her mom. When I saw her daughter I was through. Black people don’t want to discuss mental illness. That is why her mom wrote the book.

  • hottlanta

How you wanna bytch about what no one else hasn’t done for somebody and you ain’t wrote no check.

  • Ro

    LMAOOF!

  • Peter Piper ATL

LOL, is that supposed to be a read?! Girl, it needs work. I said what I said, you read it, and now you bothered. Since you are talented at solving riddles solve this one: about how many fukks do you think I give about what you just wrote? Here’s a clue: 0.

I’m lost on the notoriety comment LOL. Honey you are a big ole mess. You need a pet or some new hobbies. Or maybe you just need some dyck? By all means, settle that urge. Rentals are available.

I have my opinion and I’ll exercise whenever I choose to, thank you very much. The conversation was good but the point was being missed so I offered clarity. Sorry your feelings were so hurt but you’ll get over it.

    Bye girl.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Oh honey, and I suppose you wrote a check that was bigger than the one I didn’t write? LOL. Honey you are as phony as Nicki Minaj’s left booty cheek.

Here’s some clarification: when I do offer help, I don’t advertise on Instagram. I just help. Does any of that make sense to you, dear?

    Smooches.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Well, I don’t think DMX and LL Cool J are as cool as people may assume.

Again, LL is not some curmudgeonly philanthropist waiting in the wings to help no damn body.

  • Peter Piper ATL

LOL, are you serious? I’m not sure what went on with him and her, and honestly, I never cared to find out. But blackballing is common, and it can happen to anybody on any level, depending on who and what is involved.

  • Harley

LL had clout it was HIS show and he was very well known in the industry. People who run sets and crews do not have that much clout but writers, producers and directors do.

  • ZRoJoTheLezBeyond

It’s sad to see her in the state she’s in. It seems like guys like the guy with the green dread that recently recorded her, are mainly out to humiliate her not help her. He was offering her drugs in exchange for sex, recording her knowing who she is. Would he have done this with anyone else who was not well known? And from the way she has responded, she doesn’t want help. If she did, she would have reached out to people. Humiliating her for the world to see was not a way to get her help. She was so beautiful and talented. This is so sad to see that she is not on her meds, strung out on drugs, doing God knows what out there in the streets when she could be doing so much better. I’m not judging her, just would love to see her “want” to get the help she needs.

  • MSGREENMINUSTHEENVY

I read that book as a teen and it was painful, my sister and I watched her on the show growing up. Her mothers love was so strong and passionate.

    Girl bye.. YES he did!

  • http://browngirltightcurl.blogspot.com nellboogie

I bought The Darkest Child on e-book a long time ago…a very good read.

  • NicoleZee

Stevie Wonder could see that she needs help. All of this is very sad. How anyone can let any kind of addiction have power over their life is beyond me. How do people wake up everyday deliberately risking their lives??? Maia will end up dead or sold somewhere. The plight of young women now is just sad. Where are the mothers who are not parenting their daughters???

Parenting does not stop at 18, I still get told how to do things by my mom depending on what it is. I’m 34 and have a little boy and my mom loves to tell me how to raise him, I am thankful for any advice she gives me!!!! It takes a village. If I had a daughter like Maia, when I’m done with her, she would be gracious enough to accept treatment and rehab once she gets out of the ICU!!! I don’t play and neither does my mom. I’m not perfect but never have I been in jail or on drugs or on the street and my son will never be either. FOH!!!

  • Mia Said so

I just want to see her winning again

  • Wreckognize Game

IMO This Bitter Earth was not as good as Sugar though. But I just wanted to see where the story went

  • ZRoJoTheLezBeyond

I do, too. But first, she would need to get back in a healthy state.

  • NicoleZee

I think Jesus is working overtime on people like Maia!!! Sadly, everyone does not make it out. Plenty of women like her are already in the grave and didn’t get to do much living. If you don’t care about yourself, it’s hard for other folks to care about you. I refuse to raise criminals, addicts, dummies, and hoodlums. My son is only 21 months, but he will NOT embarrass himself or me or my mom in any way. No way in hell. They pulled him out of my body, it is my responsibility to see that he does right. I almost died having him, so we’re stuck with each other until I am rotting in the ground whether he likes it or not!!!

  • NicoleZee

Just like Kanye spiraled out of control when his mom died. These people need to grieve and get some help. I thought I couldn’t go on after my grandma died, she helped raise me and we were very close, but she would have wanted me to keep living, and that’s what I am doing. Plus, a lot of people have the WRONG people around them that enable or ignore their bad behavior. Kanye and Maia must not have genuine family members or friends that care about their well-being. Sad.

  • EMILY POST

    She has mental health issues.

  • NicoleZee

I’m only helping my mom or my son when needed. I’m done trying to help people, whether its financially or emotionally. I have my own life to finish. These addicts, hookers, and other criminals will end up dead or serving a prison sentence. They made their choices and didn’t care so they have to deal with the consequences. Sad.

  • NicoleZee

What you are saying makes sense now Mr. Peter. LL should have tried to help years ago, and you’re right, he could have done so privately. Most of these celebs are narcissists that need attention 24/7. I don’t know how their spouses and family deal with that kind of personality, that would turn me all the way off! This situation with Maia is just sad, she doesn’t want help, so if she ends up in the ground, I guess she won’t care about that either. Sad.

  • Raquelle Dellaghetto

Girl, we already saw the missing teeth..

  • hottlanta

Imma have to go in my library to see if I have that book because I bought a book about her after I read Sugar. Was the Bitter Earth about her and her father relationship. If so I have that one.

  • Hunni24

My sister turned me on to getting books at CitiTrend! I always find good ones and even audiobooks.

  • hottlanta

Talking bout someone needs some dyck. If you was man enuf to handle the puzzy you wouldn’t be running to the dyck yourself.

  • hottlanta

Yep, I tell people don’t sleep on CitiTrends. My friends also turned me on to Brenda Jackson and those Moorehead men. I went to CitiTrend and started cursing because they didn’t have any books when I kept going there. They told us some chick goes in there and get all of there books, take off the sale tag and put them online to sell. She is getting good books for under $5.00 and selling them for $10.00 or more apiece.

  • Hunni24

My first thought is that’s despicable, but I guess everyone gets their hustle on. I’m reading the Darkest Child and almost forgot I’m at work. I think I’ll purchase the paperback and the other books the other ladies recommended also.

  • Shira Harding-James

    OMG!

  • Shira Harding-James

You can raise your children with the
upmost morals and dignity and can only pray that when they enter into society they won’t forget it. However that’s all you can do, once they leave it’s up to them. I would only hope that her family has intervened in some sorts, I heard that they did, but maybe see hasn’t hit rock bottom yet. I have the same type of mother as you who does not play and at the age of 34 still gives me advice most times unwanted lol

  • ArDnAhC45

Uh…her mom died a few years ago. She was being facetious.

  • SumthinSweeter

Her mother was a great author. I have read a few of her books.

  • dontgetblocked

Her mother was author, Bebe Moore Campbell and she’s dead. She tried to help her and as Auntie mentioned even wrote a book about Maia.

  • dontgetblocked

This middle aged woman gets no more sympathy from me. She had a famous mother and a hit TV show. Yes, she is stone cold crazy but she’s also a druggie. Both of these illnesses can be managed if she wanted to get better. She doesn’t. She a certified crack whore, missing teeth and all. She was bragging about her uncombed hair and jumping up and down flapping her saggy boobs. This woman is forty…forty and still running the streets looking for a hit. She has had too many opportunities for help but she’s comfortable doing what she does. As LL learned, you can’t help someone if they don’t want it.

  • hottlanta

A lot of people on drugs and in the streets are from homes such as yours. You are saying what you will do if you had a daughter like Maia because you are fantasizing but you are not in that reality of the situation. Sitting back looking in is a whole lot different than being in it. When you say you KNOW for sure your child will not go to jail or do drugs and play God all day, you will eat those words. I love my Lil Hots and they let me know they love me and I am a good/crazy parent for and to them. But I had never been so bold to say what my child won’t do. My job is to be a parent but I will never cross the line to play God to say what another human being will do or will not do. My mom don’t tell me what to do she stays in her lane and you think you gonna pass that generational telling me what to do even when I am an adult to your child. Your child ain’t gonna have it.

  • Harley

I didnt say he was but HE DID have influence over ALL these people!!!!!!!!

  • Harley

I didnt say he was but HE DID have influence over ALL these people!!!!!!!!

  • NicoleZee

True, my son may attempt to become trash but they will have to surgically remove my foot from his ass after I find out about it!!! But, many people turn out okay, not everyone succumbs to the streets or a life of drugs. Drug addiction is well within my family and I stayed as far away from it as I could. Ain’t got time and I don’t have the money to put my face and mouth back together if I was an addict, most folks on drugs look horrible, makeup can only do so much. SMDH!! I’m not really worried about my boy, if anything he’ll wind up being a ladies man like his dad because he is handsome, but I plan to talk to him about having safe sex and not sleeping with these trashy hookers. I don’t want him to be a prude, but he doesn’t need to sleep with half the nation either.

  • CaliGONECRAZY

Yes LL is a got damn narcissist. He could have reached out to her in private. And her mother was a SUPER ASSHOLE to her. Her mother helped her mental illness spiral out of control.

  • CaliGONECRAZY

I hated how she wrote a book based on her daughter illness. That was wrong to me. If I was an author I WILL NEVER in a million years write about my child’s mental illness. And let’s be real the “disease” she has was just her response to her childhood. Something happened to her when she was a child.

  • hottlanta

You son will not need your permission to have sex. When Shaqweedranek start smacking that azz right ain’t nothing you can do because who he chose to go to bed with is none of your business. He is with her to please himself and not you. You might think you are all of that and the man you meet family will treat you with respect regardless of how well you think you look or what job you have or what school you graduated from. They still will find a reason not to like you. I know some ugly men who are ladies men that will never without a woman, Looks don’t mean a thing. How you gonna complain about your son sexing a whore when you make comments and brag about well he is handsome gonna be a ladies man like his dad making him a whore and what makes you think that the woman he meets family ain’t gonna reject him. When the shoe is on the other foot it ain’t so pretty. Just like you call someone else child trashy someone is calling your child trashy.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

What percentage of her troubles are due to mental illness and what portion of her problems are the result of sheer ignorance? 10/90? ?

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Ya’ll do know that this woman was pimped out by her own mother at a young age for TV roles right? She has a a lot of demons. I hope she gets the help she needs.

  • thaye

    Exactly….

  • Patricia

my only concern is how are people still starting drugs in 2017? do they think this is not going to happen to them or what? we see the effects, we see the destruction. whats to play/try/experiment with it for?

  • Isignedup4this

Are u serious? Stop judging… you don’t know what ppl are struggling with.

  • NicoleZee

Um, I think you took what I said out of context sweetheart. I swear most people on this site just need to get laid. Anyway, I am about to eat a slice of cake and catch up Orphan Black, it’s the final season and I will miss it dearly when it officially ends.

    Goodnight!!!

I notice that people only feel so badly” for this women because she was once a beautiful girl. But drugs and addiction have no look people. It can reduce anyone. Sadly smh??

  • Jussjess25

O wow I didnt know that

  • DeeFromLA

This makes no sense her mother BeBe Moore Campbell died years ago. Maybe sarcasm? Either way, if she doesn’t want help, then let her be. It won’t help until she is ready

  • RespectSelf

Yes, this is 2017 and folks are still trying drugs out like we don’t know what could happen. issa dummy. People are struggling from mental health issue to see the effects of something and still go down that dark path.

  • BEANTOWN BULLI

Your absolutely right she died in 2006!! Damn that crack got her mind fried; she cant even remember her mother died

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

V I’m sorry that you hated it I don’t think it was coming from a dark or malicious place I believe the book is dedicated to her daughter in fact and was written during a time that in the black community mental illness was not something we easily or readily identified with so I disagree with it being wrong

  • LordeAmbler

    Man she was my WCW.

  • Vixen

This was my girl. Maia started to really go down hill after the passing of her mom.

  • Nessa

The saddest part of this is that she came from a well educated family. What in he H*LL went wrong? She was so pretty. I just don’t get it!!
