Rapper Nicki Minaj has stirred up a hornet’s nest with her apparent endorsement of GOP candidate Mitt Romney for president. “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/ You lazy bitches are f***ing up the economy,” Nicki raps in a song on Lil Wayne’s new mixtape, Dedication 4.
Nicki isn’t the first rapper to endorse a Republican candidate for president. The late rapper Eazy E was invited to attend the Republican National Convention in 1991. Rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J attended the Republican National Convention in 2004. And 50 Cent told GQ magazine in 2005 that George W. Bush was “a gangsta.” He added: “I wanna meet George Bush, just shake his hand and tell him how much of me I see in him.”
But past Hip Hop endorsements by influential rappers didn’t dissuade fellow rapper Talib Kweli from dismissing Nicki’s endorsement of Romney as nothing more than a publicity stunt.
“I doubt Nicki seriously supports Romney,” Talib tweeted earlier today. He added: “Her lyrics ain’t political. She just wants y’all to talk about her & she winning cuz it’s working!”
But let’s talk about Nicki blaming hoodrats and welfare recipients for the sad state of the economy instead of putting the blame on President Clinton and the banking industry.
