Shocking video footage has surfaced online showing inmates gambling, drinking beer, shooting up drugs and brandishing guns. The prison is not located in a lawless third world country — the footage was allegedly filmed in a prison in New Orleans.
WDSU.com reports that U.S. District Judge Lance Africk released the videos Tuesday as part of hearings about a consent decree issued to Orleans Parish Prison.
The disturbing video shows one inmate injecting liquid drugs into a vein. When that vein blows, the inmate injects the substance into a different vein. The video also shows inmates flashing wads of cash; drinking beer; gambling and brandishing a gun inside a prison cell.
In another video, inmates complain about squalid conditions inside the prison, including moldy showers next to an area where food is prepared. A third video shows an inmate who is supposed to be in prison walking the streets of New orleans.
“I have never seen anything like it,” he said. “How can we make our city safe when prisoners are coming and going from jail as they please, walking freely on the streets and then returning to jail with heroin, cocaine, and loaded weapons?,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu who called the video footage “outrageous.”
The video footage is undated, but one former OPP inmate left a comment on the source page confirming that rampant drug use and sex between inmates and corrections officers was a common occurrence at the prison.

WRONG!! Having been a guest of OPP (in general population, not just in their holding tank) back in 2004, I can tell you without a doubt that there was RAMPANT drug use. And not just a joint passing through the block, I’m talking about crack cocaine, heroine, inmates and corrections officers having sex… I could go on and on. I was only inside for 19 days, but long enough to see things that I will NEVER forget. I agree with you about Gusman, but Foti was just as wrong.
