A controversial cross pendant designed by fashion mogul Tom Ford has Catholics everywhere outraged. The tiny gold plated cross hanging on a delicate chain is in the shape of a penis.
The Catholic League is offended by the phallic symbol — and the fact that it was created by a homosexual.
“When we learned of this item, I said to the staff that I bet this guy Tom Ford is a homosexual,” said Bill Donahue, the Catholic League’s president and CEO, in a press release. “I was right. He even thinks he’s married.” Ford, 53, and journalist Richard Buckley, 66, (pictured above) exchanged vows in a gay wedding.
Liberal news media outlets — The Huffington Post in particular, are quick to say homosexuals are not obsessed with sex. But Donahue dismisses that notion.
“A designer gets a little too cute with my religion at Christmastime, and uses sexual imagery to make a quick buck off of it,” Donahue wrote in an email to the Huffington Post. “Sounds like someone who is not exactly Catholic-friendly, and has some sexual hang-ups as well. It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in Profiling to guess just who might be behind this sick gambit.”
Gay Star News reported that others took to Twitter to criticize Ford over the phallic pendant.
The 53-year-old fashion star debuted the necklace at his spring-summer 2015 show in London over the summer. At the time, Esquire noted the possibility that the penis cross may be an allusion to the phallus-shaped fascinus charms worn by ancient Romans.
The penis cross can be ordered for $790 on Tom Ford’s website. Although it’s hard to imagine anyone wearing the penis cross outside of a gay bar or gay bathhouse.
