Rapper Young M.A. appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast on Wednesday. Young M.A. confused Shannon by saying she prefers straight women.
“Most women I’ve dated was straight,” the 34-year-old rapper told Shannon. “You flipping them?” he asked her. “I wouldn’t say ‘flipping’ them. A lot of people get that misconstrued,” she answered. “Women that I end up dating don’t mean they just fully gay now. No, they still like men. They just attracted to me and that’s it. After me they move back on to men. That’s it. You know what I mean?”
Shannon seemed confused by her remark. “But you just said you wasn’t trying to flip nobody,” he told her. “I’m not flipping them though,” she responded.
“You flipping them if they straight,” Shannon insisted. “If they straight – they never been with a woman before.”
“I’m a different type of person… I’m not like ‘gay rapper’ and sh-. I’m just me. I’m just me that loves women,” Young M.A. said.

Young M.A. (born Katorah Marrero) is best known for her 2016 single “Ooouuu”, which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video was viewed over 400 million times on YouTube.
She won BET’s Artist of the Year and MTV’s Female Hip-Hop Artist of the Year awards. The song was remixed by rappers Remy Ma, French Montana, Nicki Minaj, Jadakiss, Uncle Murda, ASAP Ferg and more.
The Fader magazine said Young M.A has “[established] herself as a quintessential New York MC,” and MTV’s Doreen St. Félix said, “This summer, the atmosphere belongs to Young M.A and her single ‘OOOUUU.'”
By 2018, Young M.A. had appeared on nearly every television talk show, including the Wendy Williams Show.

The rapper was featured in ads for Google Pixel 2, Beats By Dre and Pandora. She was featured on the annual Forbes 30 Under 30.
Young M.A. launched the non-profit KWEENZ Foundation with her mother following her brother’s stabbing death. “I got my mother involved because she sadly lost her son, my brother, in 2009 and this is something for her to get into and give her a little relief and meet other mothers who have been in that situation so they’re not alone.”
