The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office issued a statement regarding its strong case against Tory Lanez.

Tory is on trial for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in both feet in July 2020.

In a statement to HipHopDX, the L.A. County DA expressed confidence in their case against the 29-year-old Canadian.

“Although we are legally prohibited from commenting on the evidence and will continue to abide by that obligation, our office is under an ethical duty to only proceed on charges which we believe can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and which have already been upheld by a judge after presentation of evidence at the preliminary hearing. We believe the evidence substantially supports the charges and allegations and that evidence will be borne out in court.”

The statement was released amid reports that the D.A.’s case against Tory was weak.

On Wednesday, Instagram blogger Akademiks claimed Tory’s DNA was not found on the gun allegedly used to shoot Megan.

However, Page Six reporter Eileen Resner tweeted:

“FAKE NEWS ALERT: Any reports of Tory Lanez’s DNA not being found on the weapon in the Megan Thee Stallion case are FALSE. Today’s pre-trial hearing was just postponed to April 5 and that fake news tweet was sent out before the hearing even started.”

She added that she’d spoken with Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, who told her in response to DJ Akademiks’ tweet, “This is nothing more than the dishonest machinations of a desperate man.”

After Megan and Akademiks exchanged tense social media messages, she posted and deleted an apology text from Tory that read:

“Meg, I know u prolly never gone to talk to me again. But I genuinely want u to know I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart. And I was just too drunk. None the less shit should have never happened and I can’t change what I did. I just feel horrible.”

Megan then posted:

“Lie yo way out of this … if you ain’t do shit what you was apologizing for? THE LAWYERS GOT YO PHNE RECORDS AND MINE. ALL YOUR TXT. THEY GOT YOU RECORDED ON THE JAIL PHONE TALKING TO KELSEY APOLOGIZING BEGGING US NOT TO TALK.”

However, Tory explained that the text message was his way of apologizing for sleeping with both Megan and her former best friend, Kelsey, which led to the argument the night of the shooting.

The trial continues in April. Tory faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison if convicted.
