On Saturday, Usman Garuba, the Houston Rockets power forward, apparently suffered loose bowels while participating in his home country Spain’s World Cup qualifying matchup against the Netherlands.

Garuba could be seen huddling with his teammates near the bench. Sharp-eyed observers noticed he had brownish liquid on the back of his white shorts.

The images went viral, causing Twitter users to say he accidentally pooped in his pants.

The stain on Garuba’s shorts may or may not be diarrhea, but rumor has it that NBA players routinely poop their pants during the heat of competition.

“I’ve seen a couple white shorts where you see someone had a little accident on the back. Just ask any NBA equipment manager,” Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker told TrueHoops in 2021.

Diarrhea is a common and troubling symptom of Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract.

The severity of symptoms depends on what part of the intestines is inflamed.

Ulcerative colitis is another type of inflammatory bowel disease with similar signs and symptoms.

Signs and symptoms of Crohn’s:

  • Frequent diarrhea
  • An urgent need to move your bowels
  • Blood in your stool
  • Mucus in stool
  • Trouble controlling your bowels
  • Pain and cramps in middle or lower right abdomen
  • Weight loss due to inability to absorb nutrients

Crohn’s disease can progress over time and symptoms can get much worse and lead to serious complications.

While Crohn’s is an incurable condition, relief is possible with early and consistent treatment and proper diet.
