Rapper Drake has been ordered to sit for a deposition in late rapper XXXTentacion’s murder trial. A defense attorney for one of the suspects claims Drake is involved in the rapper’s death.
Mauricio Padilla, a defense attorney for Dedrick Williams, says the Canadian rap star had an alleged feud with X, which led to his murder.
Padilla subpoenaed Drake for a deposition at the end of January, but he said Drake never showed up.
Padilla petitioned the court for an “order to show cause,” forcing Drake to sit for the deposition. The judge granted the order on Thursday, Feb. 9.
The order, obtained by Rolling Stone, states that because Drake failed to appear for the deposition at the end of January, he “shall appear for a deposition” on Friday, Feb. 24.
The order continues:
“If deponent Aubrey Drake Graham does not appear to deposition he must appear before this court on Monday Feb. 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. EST … so the court can determine why he should not be held in contempt.”
(L-R) Michael Boatwright, 28, Trayvon Newsome, 24, and Padilla’s client Dedrick Williams, 26, (the getaway driver) all pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. They face life in prison if convicted.
Boatwright is accused of shooting X during an armed robbery in the parking lot of Riva Motorsports near Fort Lauderdale on June 18, 2018.
26-year-old Robert Allen (pictured) pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and willingly testified against his three accomplices.
Prior to the murder, the prosecutor showed surveillance video of the rapper withdrawing $50,000 from a bank to purchase a new motorcycle.
Allen said he and the other three suspects drove to Riva Motorsports to buy a face mask for a random robbery. They had no prior knowledge that X was there, but they spotted him in the parking lot of the motorcycle shop when they arrived.
Allen and Williams went inside the motorcycle shop. They again saw X with a Louis Vuitton bag and expensive jewelry. The four suspects decided to rob the rapper.
After blocking X’s BMW i8 sports car with their SUV, Boatwright and Newsome jumped out of the SUV and demanded jewelry and money from X.
Boatwright then shot X multiple times while Newsome grabbed his Louis Vuitton bag containing the cash. Two of the suspects later flashed the cash on social media
