Jessica Alba: ‘Everyone wants to look like us now’

Jessica “I’m not black” Alba hit back at all her haters yesterday for claiming she is ashamed of her Latin roots. In a cover story for Latina magazine, the pregnant Sin City star insisted, “I’m excited for my baby to be brown.”

Apparently, the 26-year-old actress who got her start playing a biracial dance choreographer in the movie Honey, has been under attack by Hispanic groups who feel Alba doesn’t embrace her Latin heritage enough.

In response to the attacks against her, Jessica came out swinging in the magazine article by accusing her “haters” of wanting to be her and steal some of her “flavour”. “I like that I look different; I like having flavour,” she said. “I think it’s funny that women get their lips injected, butt implants, everyone wants to look like us now.”

Alba, who is taking Spanish lessons and plans to speak only Spanish to her baby, says she feels proud that she is one of the people making the “mainstream” readjust how they see the “face of America”. She says the biggest step came when she was chosen as the new face of Revlon.” It appeals to the mass market, and the faces are me and Halle [Berry],” she said proudly. “I love that we’re representing America.”

‘Splendid New Beginnings’ For TVT Records Artists, staff

7

TVT Records, home to artists such as Lil Jon, Pitbull, Ying Yang Twins, Yo Gotti (pictured above) and Teedra Moses, became another casualty of the steady decline in Hip Hop record sales yesterday. According to online reports, the label filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and fired most of its staff.

The writing has been on the wall for awhile now – Lil’ Jon packed up and deserted camp for Los Angeles last year, and Pitbull expressed his dissatisfaction with the promotion his CD Boatlift received. But the news still surprised some including the artists like Teedra Moses who is seeking a new label home.

Sources close to TVT Records revealed that artists like Yo Gotti and Teedra are free to seek contracts with other labels. “Yo Gotti is a prime candidate as a free agent to go…He’s done his part as an artist, and although he’s a little under the radar and people in New York don’t know him that well, other majors like maybe Def Jam or Universal, whom he had a previous deal with, might want to pick him up,” revealed the source.

This morning, a slew of “last day at TVT” emails went out to most of the industry – including Sandrarose.com. One email’s author, considered a head honcho at TVT, wrote:

Today is my last day at TVT Records. After six years, I will be moving on to pursue new opportunities. It has been a pleasure and I sincerely appreciate all your support, guidance, and encouragement…

Splendid new beginnings…

Who said Island Def Jam isn’t promoting Janet Jackson?

Janet Jackson‘s Discipline is set for release on February 26, but her hard core fans are questioning why Island Records isn’t promoting their icon enough. “2 weeks to go before Discipline is released. Where are the promotions?” wrote one poster on a Janet Jackson forum.

It is hard to tell when you’re a consumer on the outside looking in and you are not privy to the inner workings of record labels. But the good folks over at Think Tank Marketing are working overtime to promote Janet’s CD – and I hear the marketing machine at Island is running on fumes.

For instance, if not for Think Tank Marketing, I wouldn’t know that on Feb. 26:

JANET JACKSON will take over TIMES SQUARE with GOOD MORNING AMERICA at 7AM with a LIVE PERFORMANCE at NOKIA THEATRE!Then she will take over TRL with a SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AT 3PM

And she will be at BEST BUY (between 43 and 44th streets in NY) for an IN-STORE SIGNING AT 6PM!

The problem is not a lack of promotion on the label’s part. The problem is the lack of interest on the part of the target audience of the promotional material – radio stations, media outlets, etc. Entertainment editors are writing scathing reviews of the album, and 8 tracks have already leaked onto the Internets with very little mention in the mainstream press.

So don’t blame the record label which is doing the best it can. Blame an industry that has been lulled into apathy due to the unspoken blacklisting of Janet for that unfortunate Super Bowl halftime incident that she says wasn’t planned. Much will be made of Janet’s failures if Discipline doesn’t make cash registers sing on Feb. 26. But as far as Janet’s hard core fans are concerned, Miss Janet cannot lose.

Update: Lenny Kravitz is out of the hospital and doing fine

11

Lenny Kravitz checked out of a Miami Beach hospital the same day he was admitted according to an insider. “He is ok. He walked in the hospital and walked out the same day. He is fine. Not a big deal,” wrote the insider in a text message to Sandrarose.com.

Kravitz, 43, was reportedly stricken with acute bronchitis and “rushed” to Mount Sinai hospital on Miami Beach last week, according to media outlets.

Friends said Kravitz had been treated by a doctor for “severe respiratory infections” on an out-patient basis for at least a month prior to going into the hospital. But according to another insider, Kravitz was treated at the hospital for dehydration.

We here at Sandrarose.com are relieved to hear that the rock ‘n roll star is ok and planning to go back on the road to promote his 8th studio album It’s Time For a Love Revolution, which is in stores now.

Another celeb finds love in the arms of a DL man

Former Flava of Love winner Deelishis covers Sister2Sister magazine this month. Deelishis graces the March 2008 cover locked in an embrace with an apparently openly down low man.

Her new man, who she says she met while at a promotional event in Detroit, has more diamonds adorning his neck and wrist than she does. Then there’s that delicate butterfly tattoo on his right arm that screams flyboy.

It’s not for me to try to guess what seemingly strong, independent women like Star Jones and Deelishis see in feminine men. Maybe it’s the fact that they are so much more in touch with their feminine side than thugs are.

Jamie: Are you in a relationship with anyone now?
Deelishis: I am.
Jamie: Is he known or not known?
Deelishis: No, he’s not known. He’s a very nice gentleman that I met by chance. It was
really nice. I was actually doing a promotional event at home, in Detroit, and I met him.
Jamie: What does he do?
Deelishis: He owns a club, he owns a real estate company, and he also owns a landscaping
company. He has a few little businesses. He’s very smart.

Jamie: He’s young?
Deelishis: Yeah, he’s young [27 years old]. One thing about him that I really like is
that he supports my career.

Jamie: So let me ask you this: were you ever in love with Flav?
Deelishis: I was in love with the idea of being in love with him. I liked him a lot. …
Flav decided that he’d rather risk my friendship and the possibility of a serious,
long-term relationship for the opportunity to do something with 51 Minds Entertainment
and VH1. And he didn’t go about it the right way.

Rihanna Banned On Beyoncé Board!

Beyoncé‘s legions of hard core fans were left dazed and confused when Rihanna literally came from nowhere to snatch Beyoncé’s crown. With very little fanfare and a sweet, humble disposition, Rihanna has solidified her position as the “it” girl to watch on the pop music scene.

Peep this message from Beyonce world’s webmaster to stunned Bee supporters who are suddenly faced with watching their queen fade into obscurity:

Rihanna topics: Read before you post.
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:22:39 PM »From now on every member who posts a Rihanna topic in the Beyonce section that has nothing to do with Beyonce will get banned. I’ve had enough of it (and by the ‘report’ messages, I’m sure alot of members too).

Every day I can remove those topics again and I’m tired of it

PETA Slams Aretha Franklin

It was bound to happen: Aretha Franklin slammed Beyoncé for not showing her a little respect, and PETA has returned the favor by slamming Aretha for wearing a fur coat to the Grammys. PETA decided to take advantage of the storm of controversy surrounding Aretha by sending copies of a letter to the press and referring to the queen as ‘a clown.’ In the letter to Franklin, PETA spokesperson Dan Matthews wrote:

“Music lovers may think of you as a ‘queen,’ but to animal lovers, you are a court jester. I’m sorry, Aretha, but your furs make you look like a clown. Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice? Please consider donating your furs to the homeless as ‘queen of compassion,’ Mariah Carey, did. You’ll get a tax credit for the donation, and we at PETA will all sing your praises.”

Sincerely,
Dan Mathews
