Was This BET’s Most Random Hip Hop Awards Ever?
You know things are looking bad for the music industry when the biggest celebs on the red carpet at the BET Hip Hop Awards were nobodies with butts filled with silicone, and reality TV personalities. Someone had better do something fast to revitalize the industry before everyone ends up being out of work.
Speaking of random, made-for-TV fashion designer Sheree Whitfield could have done a lot better than this jumpsuit, I think. Isn’t it a shame how her ex-husband (and former NFL player) Bob Whitfield rants and rages at her daily on his Twitter page and nobody cares?
They say producer/rapper Missy Elliott escorted a hawt chick on her arm into the Civic Center.
Rappers Trina, left, and Soulja Boy, who bonded out of jail Wednesday after his arrest for running from the cops.
Rap legends Kid N’ Play were in the house.
Plies graced the red carpet with his thug presence.
I thought this boy was in jail? Rapper Lil Boosie and his daughter sat in the audience. Boosie was sentenced to two years in prison recently. I’m guessing he’s out on bond while he appeals his sentence.
I don’t even know who Alesha Renee is. This is sad…

Lady, she is a reporter on BET. I think she was one of the girls who won the contest with Wresci, Terrence, and that other wack dude when they cleaned house and was searching for new talent. She was MIA forever but she pops up every now and then with Toure.
As far as the awards, this is who Hip Hip is represented by these days. VH1 Soul showed ALL the GOOD rap videos yesterday and man it was SO refreshing. Took me back to some good times. I mean like Erik B and Rakim, BIGGIE, Tribe, BDP, PE, De La Soul, LL, Kool Moe D, Nas, NWA, Ice Cube, Easy, Special Ed, LOTTS, UTFO, Poor Righteous Teachers, Roxanne Shante, Naughty, Cypress, Common, Pac (pre Death Row), Black Moon, Mc Eight, Gangstarr, Nice and Smooth, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, The Queen, Lyte, Mobb Deep, Ill Al/Scratch, Brand Nubians, I mean just off the chain.
My tv was on that channel for like 5 hours straight.

I am just going to say this because people feel like I am bitter anyway about this industry which is so not true but I came in the game where we had to grind hard to be the best! Where our work dictated who would get an account or a rewards. Where we worked countless hours for free but put in the best work there was. I came in when black people wasn’t dominating the music industry when only Sony, Universal, etc had only Urban Departments, there were no bunch of boutique labels. Everybody strive and work the hardest to out do the next.
However now the entire black/urban industry turned into some bogus look at me contest, where the real essence of the game has been completely misconstrued. People really ain’t doing sh!t but run around like they did so much.
1. Artists who are nobody walking around like they invested like New Edition, Mary J., Pac, Biggie. However none of their music stays around for more than 3 – 6 months. AFter that nobody plays that sh!t again, it is forgotten unlike the classics that get played over and over.
2. Artists strive to copy others, all these artists look alike in trends, they rap about the same sh!t, they all run around like they really doing something when in reality they have sold a damn thing to be having a bentley or even a house. You look at these magazines, the interviews are the same, all of them are killers and “live it for real”. They use the same producers because Jeezy had that hit record, etc.
3. The rappers can’t put lyrics together adn deliver them. I dare anybody to just listen to the accapella of Souljah boy, or any of these new artists then listen to Biggie, Method Man, Redman you will hear the difference.
4. How is it that Bloggers, don’t need to spell check, grammar check, they use the same free WordPress templates that they copied from another blogger? WTF why do you want to be like someone, you suppose to go harder and better.
5. 90% of the people at the BET Awards in my book are irrelevant, they haven’t done a damn thing to contribute and keep the music alive, BET and everbody else are just trying to find anything to cover so they can stay relevant.
And the story goes on. But the main things is that majority of people just want to be famous by any means, Why did Real Housewives become such a hit, can these b!tches act? Can you put any of these chicks against a Angela Bassett, Keri Washington, Halle Berry? No they just a bunch of birds pretending to be what they are not and cause drama all day. That is a claim to fame.
So yes this industry has no value anymore, no standard and no integrity. BET honors that? they should have just cancelled it and said due to the lack of talent we have cancelled the show

@dblaq, you better preach!! I worked in the Royalties Dept for BMG. I managed the royalties account for all artists on RCA Music Group record label. I could not believe how incompetent the “white” attorneys from these big law firms were. Did they even try to negotiate for their clients?? Yet, the black entertainers run their azzes to these white attorneys at these big law firm thinking they are getting top notch legal representation. Well, your dumb azzes are not. @attorneymom – That is how it always goes, we follow the hype versus the work. Look at Jacob The Jeweler. He came out with the watch line catered to us charge $5K – $10K for it, all the dummies went bought and bragged. Then they did a real appraisal on the watch and it came out to be only worth about $300.
@Elove and I blame a lot of the old katz, instead of making everybody step up they stoop down. That’s why Kandi disappointed me, when she did that tardy party sh!t. As a true artists she should have been like “Yo ass can’t sing worth a sh!t and you have no talent and I can’t work with it. but I have somebody that can do it much better” But she saw it as an opportunity to get some shine. So they contribute to the bullsh!t. You never saw Michael Jackson do any collabos with amateurs. The only collabo he did with a no name was Rockwell but that was Berry Gordy sons so some major strings were pulled, he only sang the hook & didn’t appear in the video but the rest were only top notch artists. Thats why I am beginning to appreciate some of the white rock bands or artists from the UK. They take the time out to learn the instruments and really play.

I worked independently and help broke Aaliyah, Ruff Ryders, No Limit, several others, I worked at MCA Records worked with MJB, Jesse Powell, The Roots, Kci & JoJo, Aaron Hall, then managed Patchwerk Recordings for several years, and so on.
