Last night I spoke with top celebrity publicist Marvet Britto via phone. She was very concerned that her 15-year reputation as one of the industry’s most credible publicists was being tarnished by an unscrupulous blogger (who no one has ever heard of).
Britto, who founded the prestigious Britto Agency in NYC, wanted my readers to know that while she does represent the publicity and production interests of mediatakeout.com, she is not involved in the content of that website. And to prove her point, Britto called an Atlanta friend, Lisa, by three-way who told me that she asked Britto to intercede on behalf of another friend who wanted a post removed from MTO.
“If she was the owner that post would have been removed,” said Lisa.
Britto, who was calling from a yacht in the Bahamas, also cleared up the rumor that she represented Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster-Glover. “At no time have I ever represented Tameka Foster-Glover. At no time!,” said Britto adamantly.
“I don’t want to work with Tameka Foster. It wasn’t about whether she could afford me. I’m sure the mother of Usher’s two children can afford to hire me. I know her. She’s cool. She’s sweet. I represent corporations and brands. I’m very particular with the folks I work with. We never even discussed me representing her. We never got into that,” said Britto, who represents rapper Plies, and actor/author Hill Harper, among others.
Rumor had it that Foster-Glover approached Britto earlier this year and asked her for representation while she went through that nasty divorce from Usher. Apparently, Foster-Glover had heard that Britto did wonders for the image of Sean Combs’ baby mama Kim Porter. But Britto insisted that she and Porter are only close friends (Britto is the Godmother of Sean and Kim’s twin girls).
“Tameka is friends with [former R&B singer] Pebbles who I’m very close to and… I don’t represent Kim Porter. I don’t represent the reality [TV] people. I just don’t do that…. As far as representing people through divorces, I just have never done that. I represent people for long term. I don’t just come on board for certain situations. I do crises, but I only do that for people that I represent on an ongoing basis.”
Britto strongly denied allegations that she feeds information about her celebrity clients to MTO. “I don’t get involved with Fred’s content,” said Britto, referring to Fred Mwangaguhunga, a former corporate lawyer-turned gossip blog owner.
“He writes negative stories trashing my clients. At the end of the day my clients would be thrilled if I could keep them off of it,” said Britto who frequently contributes to CNN and CBS.
“I build brands. I’m the branding person to assist [Fred] with bringing his TV show to life. I don’t own Mediatakeout. Give me a break! Our relationship is strictly business. In the beginning I told him ‘I’m not going to get involved in your content so don’t ask me anything.’ I’m a publicist, not a gossip columnist.”
After posting pics from my friend Elsa‘s birthday bash at the Gold Room, readers have been emailing me requesting the recipe for Patron cupcakes. Thanks to loyal reader Angela Watts who found this recipe online just in time for your New Year celebrations!

WSB-TV 2 reports that vandals ransacked the church owned by R&B singer Monica’s stepfather. The tiny St. Marks United Methodist church in Fairburn has been hit twice in one week according to police.
Police are beefing up patrols in the area where the church sits at the corner of Bay and Oak Streets. The congregation doesn’t understand why anyone would want to do damage to the church. Vandals first ransacked the kitchen before stealing a DVD, punched a hole in an office door and knocked over a framed picture of Monica.
“We can give them food. all they have to do is ask for it. And we can provide them with a DVD player if they want one,” said Monica’s stepfather the Rev. Best.
Take a good look at the picture above. It’s a picture of an indignant terrorist sympathizer who’s just been dragged off the golf course to read a prepared statement about a subject that he has no interest in — terrorism.
As far as US president Barack Obama is concerned, there is no war on terror. He made sure of that when he struck those very words from his administration’s vernacular.
Yesterday, Obama drew the ire of the NY Daily News and former VP Dick Cheney when he referred to Christmas Day terrorist bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as an “isolated extremist” — despite the fact that al Qaeda supplied the bomb materials and instructions to Umar.
Meaning Umar was not working alone as Obama so blindingly suggests.
Obama has come under attack this week by the mainstream media for pretending we are not at war with terrorists. Why should Obama admit we are at war with terrorists when it’s obvious that he sympathizes with them?
In an interview with Politico.com, Cheney said:
“As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think if he has a low key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of 9/11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.
“He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al Qaeda trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, ‘war on terror,’ we won’t be at war. But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe. Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency – social transformation—the restructuring of American society. President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.” Read More…
Whitney Houston’s long-awaited comeback kind of fizzled out this year even though her album went platinum. Now friends are telling the National Enquirer that Whitney is back on crack. That would be sad considering all the work she did to stay clean.
“Everyone is worried about her,” revealed a source. “Whitney seems to go from being a nervous wreck to being completely out of it in a short period of time – just like she did when she was freebasing and using crack cocaine.“She is still drinking and with Whitney, alcohol and drugs have always gone hand-in-hand. She’s worked so hard to get back on top. It would be tragic for it to go up in smoke because she can’t stay clean.”Now, under pressure to continue her comeback, Whitney appears tense and overanxious, said the source, adding: “You can’t help worrying that she’s slipped back into some of her bad habits.” Read More…
Days before TMZ reported this incident involving legendary producer Teddy Riley, I received an email from the daughter who made the allegations of physical abuse. But I deleted the email without even reading it, believing it to be a prank from a reader.
That’s the way it goes sometimes in the world of blogging. Decisions have to be made on a daily basis to maintain credibility.
Anyway, Riley has released a statement denying the allegations. But a judge saw fit to grant his daughter a restraining order soooo…
As TMZ first reported, one of Riley’s adult daughters obtained a restraining order against him, claiming the singer beat her and her sister and threatened to hurt them with a guitar from the video game Rock Band earlier this month.
But in a statement to TMZ, Teddy flat-out denies the allegations — and insists the entire situation arose because his parenting techniques allowed his kids to have “an inflated sense of entitlement and expectation.”
Here’s the statement in its entirety:
Due to recent events, I am compelled to respond in detail to accusations made against me, by my daughters.
I love my Daughters, but I will not allow my children to disrespect me in my home. Contrary to what I have been accused of, I would never beat my children.
Perhaps, I should have been a stronger disciplinarian as they were growing up. I worked very hard so that my children would want for nothing.
