Dr. Sanjay Gupta interrogates CDC director

CNN’s chief medical reporter Dr. Sanjay Gupta interrogated the director of the CDC for bringing two American health care workers who have been infected with Ebola to Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Dr. Gupta asked CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden if it was medically reasonable to evacuate the health care workers from Liberia to the U.S., especially in light of the anthrax lab accidents at the CDC last month.

“You’re knowingly bringing Ebola into the United States — a virus that has not been here,” said Dr. Gupta.

Dr. Gupta was concerned that the CDC and Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse conspired to bring the infected health workers to the U.S. without any regard for the safety of the population.

“Just to be clear, there’s nothing different that they’re going to get in the United States versus where they are,” said Dr. Gupta. “If there were specific things they needed it could’ve been flown there. This was purely because they wanted to bring these patients home to the United States,” he added.

Dr. Frieden gave sketchy and evasive answers to Dr. Gupta’s questions.

“Once the plane lands [in Atlanta], how are they going to get the patient to the hospital”, Dr. Gupta asked.

“I’m not going to go through the details with you,” Dr. Frieden replied.
