Have you ever noticed that the majority of kids who grow up in strict, religious households turn out to be the most morally and ethically corrupt? Kelly Rowland turned out alright, but that lying, thieving Beyonce is a mess. I can’t picture Beyonce being on fire for God. Can you?

She told The Scotsman Newspaper: “I can’t live without it. As kids we were so on fire for God. And then you grow up, travel and experience things and stop reading the Bible every day. You don’t realize that you’re taking important things away from yourself.

I think a lot of children who are raised in strict religous households are like this. When we were growing up we went to church 4x’s a week with my gmom. That was where you could find us Sun/Mon/Wen/Sat but once she passed we only went on Sunday and then by adulthood I quit for about 8yrs. all of our social lives revolved around church.

I went to church for CCD which was on Saturday and Mass on Sunday ..

But I have plenty of cousins who go to church more than me and lets just say..they are loose . .. ..

My relationship with God hasn’t changed it has grown as I got older..but thats just me…

I was born n raised in the church and still there, going 2night as a matter of fact. I strayed for a min or 2 in my early 20s but he kept me as well during that time. Thank God for grace and mercy

Whose to say Kelly is morally just. It seems from her quote she feels she sold out to the lord for fame a little. The only reason Bey is getting grief is because she is the most successful. Majority???? No ma’am! I agree that SOME do but majority is a stretch don’t you think? I’ve been in church all my life and my parents are preachers but i am not morally and ethically corrupt. I wish people would stop saying that! Everytime i tell someone my parents are preachers they say “oh ya’ll the worst ones” and I wanna slap them everytime. We’re the same as anyone else. It’s like people expect you to be perferct and that’s impossible. Everyone makes mistakes so it has nothing to do with strict religious housholds and everything to do with being HUMAN.

Well said Kelly. That is so true, you get caught up in the world because you think you are having fun but Christ is always in your heart so you feel guilty. I am enjoying my so ever growing relationship with HIM. I am not perfect and sometimes I may fall short but not off.

SN: Yes I talk about sex and love sex more now that I am married. It has a whole new meaning. Can’t explain it. Based on my teachings, don’t think I’ve done any abomination.

I have aunts and uncles and cousins who parents are preachers..and I am not stereotyping them…Majority of them are messed up and this is from first hand experience… (but this is ppl I know)

I think they are referring to the obvious business decisions made by Beyonce and her father. Even though he was the manager, as a friend/sister, she should’ve stepped in but she “seemed” so much more focused on her career. I’m on the fence about this one, I like Kelly as a person, for what is displayed, but I never thought he had what it takes or a voice that stands out, the “it” factor. Her vocals are mediocre IMO.

There have been plenty of celebs who grew up in the church and lost their way. Some more than others (ie, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Jodeci, etc. etc.) IMO, it looks as if Kelly wants to become closer to her faith and I applaud her for that.

I think teaching a child morals and faith has more of an impact on them as they grow than religion. Children rarely pay attention in church and the Bible is just a really big boring book until you understand what you’re reading.

A lot of young famous singers start off singing in the Church choir and then them and their family get some money and forget all about their faith. Jessica Simpson’s dad was a minister and we see how he allowed his daughter to parade in a bikini a few years back. Same for Britney she was really religious at first then fame happened. It’s a combo of money and fame (being idolized) that drives people from being faithful. I bet it would be hard to name Christian, practicers of Judiasm or Islamic people in Hollywood.

In regards to comment #22 if you found out one of your coworkers was about to get fired or got fired would you/have you stepped to your manager to try and save their job? Do you/have you quit? I’m trying to understand how that business decision was Bey’s fault. Yes he is her daddy but since the Writings on the wall CD it was obvious that Bey was the better artist so that’s likely why more focus was put on her.

Kelly is no longer under Matthew and she is a star overseas but still not in America. When is the blame going to go from Bey to Kelly. Maybe she just doesn’t have the “it” factor to be a solo artist

Some people go around judging and condeming others because they can’t fix themselves! As the saying goes “people in glass house shouldn’t throw stones”. They know what’s right and choose to do wrong anyway but then get on you for not doing what the word says. The best way to stop that is knowing the word for yourself so that when the “bible thumpers” come along trying to tear you down, you may be able to get them right on together and tell them about themselves.

@Man I told my granny I wasn’t going to church one Sunday because “at home” I stayed home and watched cartoons…after the bruise went away from being slapped into the oven, the burns healed from her pressing my hair and the lump in my throat went down from having to eat cold oatmeal before church…I was NEVER disrecpectful to her ever again and gladly took myself to church. When my mom came to pick me up she laughed all the way back to the city.

Everyone is fighting demons, when you recognize them and seek the word, with time there is change. My battle was fornication. I’m not in that place anymore. We are taught to tell the teachings so the blood stain isn’t on us as a wise woman did the same for me. if we share the same religion we should shared the same beliefs, if not carry on. I got a lot of slack before for not agreeing with men marrying each other. That’s MY belief so when QUESTIONED about it that was my answer. @OTB Civil pretty much summed up my point with the exception of one thing, where do your morals and faith come from? Religion right? If they’re not based on religion then where do they come from? So to say religion doesn’t play a part in a childs upbringing is false IMO. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” So it is on the parents to instill the teachings that they will need once they get older.

@Mama…my idea of religion is actively learning the teachings of the Bible. The Bible is no simple read which is why I think it’s difficult for kids to grasp (ages 0-10 atleast) But yea I did mean faith in God and what’s right and wrong.

I was always taught you knew a christian by their actions not their word. If I quoted my Pastor’s sermon word for word that’s not showing I’m a true believer, but if in your every day interactions with other they get a sense of you being a christian that’s who you are. So if everything I put out is about lying, cheating, stealing would others look to me as a chrsitian or as a hypocrite?

I feel you. Blogging can be a two edged sword. You are assuming someone’s mood by their words. There is no face. People constantly take your words, twist it just to make themselves feel inferior. It’s shameful. I agree with whoever said you don’t have to tell people you are a Christian HOWEVER when you are on a blog everything is written, that’s how your character is developed. @civil i know what you meant and as a child they won’t understand what the bible is saying that’s why it’s on the PARENTS to teach them what’s in the bible. IMO *side eying your claws* yes. I think it’s derived from the teachings within the bible on how to live. Yes I believe that’s where faith and morality comes from. The bible is used amongst different denominations BUT every denomination has a different way of worship.

i tell people all the time, it’s a JOURNEY. i’m not going to get it right all the dang time but i’m putting forth my very best effort, and learning invaluable lessons as i go along. i know that i’m growing spiritually and getting closer to the purpose He has for me in this life. @mama I should say that I have my own issues with Christianity… Mostly my problems stem from the gross ambiguity of the religion itself. I was raised a Southern Baptist and spent plenty of time with ‘em. As I got further in my education, the teachings could not sustain me.

I fully believe in God. I do not fully believe in The Bible and its inconsistencies.

Majority???? No ma’am! I agree that SOME do but majority is a stretch don’t you think? I’ve been in church all my life and my parents are preachers but i am not morally and ethically corrupt. I wish people would stop saying that! Everytime i tell someone my parents are preachers they say “oh ya’ll the worst ones” and I wanna slap them everytime. We’re the same as anyone else. It’s like people expect you to be perferct and that’s impossible. Everyone makes mistakes so it has nothing to do with strict religious housholds and everything to do with being HUMAN.

I was raised by my grandparents and my grandfather is a pastor. Mind you everybody knew him, my grandma and my mom, so if we did something wrong. We might as well go to hell because we’re the pastors kids and pastors kids ain’t suppose to do this and do that. What people don’t understand is that we’re human and we are going to make mistake. I understand and i know a lot of people feel that way but what that stems from is not haveing knowledge of the entire book. You can’t get a book, only read certain parts of it, a book and expect to know it in it’s entirety. You will never have good comprehesion of it. What inconsistencies are in the Bible? Give me an example…

As far as the other topic. Whitney started as a church singer lost her way and came back. I’m more of a spiritual person than religious because I believe in evolution.

I am not looking for a fight, I don’t have that type(negative) of energy today. But I am responding genuinely, those 4 girls started at youth together (Kel, Bey, Toya and Tavia), Kelly didn’t leave because SHE was too loyal and wasted too much time late in her career. The other girls living is a obvious sign that the management of the GROUP was unfair. We hardly knew anyone else’s voice on their records and Toya can sing. Had he put as much energy into her she could’ve been another solo artist. Look at Solange’s career. It’s like he disowned her too once she had that baby @ 17.

Honestly at the end of day i’ll believe what i believe and you’ll believe what you believe. We are all entitled to that. I’m not judgin anyone because of the way they live or what they believe because it’s not my place to do so. My besfriend is gay and me and him are closer than close and will do anything for eachother. I don’t judge or hate him because of his lifestyle, imay not agree with it, but that doesn’t stop our friendship. He is a great friend and I love him for that. I just want to say that some people shouldn’t bottle all Christains up in one group saying that all we do is hit people with the bible and holy water then turn our noses up at those who don’t do as we say and believe! I am not, have not, and will not be like that.

Could the gods that people believed in have been the beings from a different world that visited and noted in pictures. They are also noted by the Egyptians, Indians, Myians, etc. All on the pyramids throughout the glob. Its more to it than what meets the eyes. Like someone stated many books have been left out and If the first book was gods word why would people create a new on for changing times. some things get lost in translation.

iscream, there was no beef or animosity towards Free, they took it that way, I was only giving facts…Letoya Luckett is no where on that photo up there, she wasn’t on Star Search, and she wasn’t added until after those girls, the original Girls Tyme(photo Sandra posted) lost on Star Search. That is when Mathew took over People are so quick to try and throw salt until all their info is incorrect. Girls Tyme was Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland,Latavia Roberson, Tamar Davis ,Nikki and Nina Taylor. I’m late coming back but @OTB yes I was (still am) the gifted granddaughter of a preacher and stayed in church non stop. Even when we were out of church me and my little cousins used to “play church” and one of us would be in the dining room on the organ, somebody be standing on a chair giving the sermon and another would be passed out on the floor lol
