NeNe Leakes‘ husband Gregg Leakes was recently admitted to a local hospital when his colon cancer returned after going into remission.
The former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star revealed her husband’s colon cancer diagnosis in 2018.
Gregg underwent surgery and chemotherapy and was in remission – until his cancer recurred recently.
“He’s in the hospital. He’s been in the hospital, tomorrow it’ll be a week,” she said in an Instagram Live with blogger Jasmine Brand.
“I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so. He had to have a surgery, his cancer did return. He’s had this surgery before and he was in the hospital for about 15 days.”
The 53-year-old reality star admitted it is a “difficult” time for her, and her 66-year-old husband is battling a debilitating wasting syndrome called cachexia.
Cachexia is significant muscle loss, weight loss, fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, and decreased quality of life.
“He’s super small. If you’ve ever been around somebody who’s had cancer before, he’s different. He’s different. I’d love for everybody to pray for Gregg, that would be beautiful. Pray for his strength. And pray for me, too.”
In May 2019, NeNe took to Instagram to share a picture of Gregg holding a sign which read: “No cancer found! Praise God…”
She added the caption:
“Look at God! We are over joyed to say, we saw the doctors for the results of Gregg’s Pet Scan he took last week! Test show, wait for It… WE ARE CANCER FREE!!! [sic]”
The couple married in 1997 but divorced in 2011. They remarried in 2013 in a ceremony that was filmed for reality TV.
In January 2019, Gregg apologized to NeNe for giving her a hard time amid his cancer battle.
“We always hurt the ones we Love, because they allow us to hurt them rather than snap back. I’m tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me. I Pray to God to get it together.. She’s done NO wrong… this is ALL on me…… Cancer WILL change your Life… [sic]”
An exhausted NeNe wanted to hire a home health nurse to care for her husband, but he refused.
