Ismaaiyl Brinsley and Shaneka Thompson

The ex-girlfriend of cop killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley pleaded for help from a neighbor after she was shot in the abdomen by Brinsley hours before he ambushed and killed 2 NYPD officers.

Police say Brinsley arrived at Shaneka Thompson’s Baltimore apartment at 5:45 a.m. Saturday and let himself in with a key she didn’t know he had.

Brinsley and Thompson, 29, began arguing about their failed relationship. At some point he put a gun to his head, but Thompson talked him out of killing himself. He then shot her before fleeing the apartment.

Neighbor Yevette Seay told the Associated press she heard the violent commotion next door.

Seay said she heard her neighbors fight before, but she got out of bed that morning because of the blood curdling screaming.

“I could hear something going on and it wasn’t pleasant,” Seay told the AP. “Then I heard some screaming, then she went out onto her balcony and screamed for help.”

Seay told the AP she heard Thompson scream: “He shot me! I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die.”

Minutes later Thompson was pounding on Seay’s front door, pleading for Seay to let her in. Seay said she looked out the peephole and saw her bloodied neighbor. But Seay said she kept her door locked and called 911.

“I told her to hang in there. I was afraid to ask her too many questions because she was hysterical,” Seay told the Associated Press.

The NY Post reports that Brinsley called Thompson’s mother about 6 a.m. to say the shooting was an accident and that he hoped Thompson would survive.

Baltimore police began tracking Brinsley’s GPS on Saturday morning. At some point Brinsley logged into his Instagram account and forewarned of his plans to “put wings on pigs”. Baltimore police alerted the NYPD about Brinsley’s Instagram posts when his GPS put him in the NY area.

After executing NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn later that morning, Brinsley fled to a nearby subway station where he shot himself in the head.

Brinsley’s mother said her son suffered from an undiagnosed mental illness, and that he attempted suicide last year.

“I’m shocked that my granddaughter would be associated with a guy of that mentality,” Thompson’s grandfather James Delly told the NY Post. “She’s a warm, loving, hard-working, caring person.”

Thompson is expected to survive.
