Michael Dunn, the Florida who fatally shot 17-year-old Jordan Davis during an argument over loud music, compared himself to a rape victim during a recorded jailhouse phone call.
A Florida jury convicted Dunn, 47, on three counts of 2nd-degree attempted murder for shooting up the SUV that Davis and his 3 friends were riding in.
“I was the one that was being preyed upon and I fought back,” Dunn told his fiancée, Rhonda Rouer, according to audio released by the prosecutor’s office on Monday.
Dun added: “It’s not quite the same but it made me think of like the old TV shows and movies where like how the police used to think when a chick got raped going, ‘Oh, it’s her fault because of the way she dressed.’ I’m like, ‘So it’s my fault because I asked them to turn their music down. I got attacked and I fought back because I didn’t want to be a victim and now I’m in trouble. I refused to be a victim and now I’m incarcerated.”
Dunn said he was confident that no jury would find him guilty of killing Davis.
“I’m super confidant that if they take this to trial there will be a short deliberation,” Dunn told Rouer.
Dunn got into a verbal altercation with Davis over loud music in a convenience store parking lot in Jacksonville, Fla in 2012.
Without warning, Dunn opened fire on Davis and his 3 friends as they cowered in the SUV. Davis was hit 3 times. He died at the scene.
In another jailhouse phone call to Rour Dunn insisted he was the victim, not Davis.
“I’m the f—ing victim here. I was the one who was victimized,” Dunn laughed. “I’m the victor but I was the victim too.”
