Obama Retakes Oath of Office

UPDATED: (scroll down)

After fumbling the oath of office yesterday, Barack Obama took the oath again at the White House tonight without the pomp and circumstance of yesterday’s affair.

Amid Constitutional concerns, Chief Justice Roberts was ushered into the Map Room of the White House at 7:35 PM where he administered a second oath to Obama in front of the press pool.

A White House official said:

“We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately yesterday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time,” (LINK)

It is the first time in history that a new president had to retake the oath of office.

According to some of my readers, two previous presidents — Calvin Coolidge and Chester Arthur, retook the oath before Obama.

Obama’s 1st Order as POTUS: Suspend trial of 9/11 mastermind (I guess that was a priority)

Barack Obama’s 1st order of the day as POTUS was to suspend the trial of 9/11 terrorists, included the mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

A judge today granted a request by Obama to halt the trials at the Guantanamo Bay war crimes court for 120 days.

I guess that was a more pressing matter than helping Americans who lost their homes.

Well, Obama did promise to bridge the gap between the terrorists and America.

No need to comment. I just thought you’d like to know.

Quote of the Day: T.I. Gives Praise Unto God

The Lord touches our lives in mysterious ways…

“I want to thank God for somehow … I know he perfect. So I’mma thank him for everything. I’mma thank him for making me drop out of school. I’mma thank him for making me run the streets. I’mma thank him for making me sell crack. I’mma thank him for making me have shoot-outs. I’mma thank him for allowing me to watch my partners die in my arms, So I’d be fearful enough for my life and paranoid enough to go out and cop machine guns and silencers so I catch a fed case and I have to put up $3 million for my bond so I have to spend seven months of my life in my house, so I have to spend a year of my life in prison just so I be validated enough to get out there and touch the youth because they know that I done been through it, and if I say it, it means something. You know what I’m saying?” (LINK)

FanMAIL: We Met Usher and Tameka

A loyal reader, who asked to remain anonymous, wrote:

Hey Sandra:

I am a DC native, and I read your blog at least twice a day no matter what is going on in my life :-) In the spirit of you being more positive in 2009, I wanted to share some positive information with you (the home team) about your “favorite” Atlanta couple… Tameka and Usher that I ask that you share with my Sandrarose blog peeps. Me and my close girl friend were shopping in the shoe department of Saks Fifth Ave in Tyson’s Corner Galleria on Monday, January 19 around 3:40pm. We were sitting and my friend was admiring this woman’s blush seated in the couch across from us when she realized that it was Tameka.

Besides me and my friend, Tameka and this man (we assumed to be her assistant) were the only people in the shoe department. She was extremely friendly while we chatted with her. At one point I was telling her that we attended the Lincoln Memorial concert (more on that in the next email) and that Usher’s peacoat was so FLY… so the next thing I know, Usher walks up on our conversation, and I’m surprised.

Celebs Out & About: T.I. and Tiny!

Tameka “Tiny” Cottle has never looked so radiant! Tiny and her man T.I. strolled down the red carpet at a high brow Inaugural ball last night in Washington D.C.

While Tiny danced the night away, I received an email from a family member who probably wondered why I didn’t call about the Internet rumors that Tiny was pregnant.

I knew if the family didn’t call me, then the rumors weren’t true. I know better than to believe anything regarding Tiny that doesn’t come from the family.

By the way, said family member is now a member of our exclusive community (which is growing smaller by the day).

Tiny is never one to let stupid rumors get her down. She looks beautiful!

And, yes she is filming a reality show with her close friends Toya, Kandi Burruss and Joy Bounds. But as far as I know, the series hasn’t been picked up by a network yet.

I’ll keep you informed of any new developments.

FanMAIL: Did Beyonce Volunteer?

Loyal reader Aikandy points out that while singer Usher worked his fingers to the bone volunteering at a school in one of D.C.’s poorest areas — Beyonce, predictably, didn’t volunteer for sh*t.

And before you say, ‘maybe they didn’t ask her to volunteer?‘ Since when does anyone with a kind heart have to be asked to volunteer?

Hi auntie,

Can you post something about that country bumpkin NOT volunteering?

On Nov 5, “I’m there. I can’t wait. I feel like all of us, we’re ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want – if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready,” a giddy Beyonce said in an interview the day after Barack Obama made history in becoming the nation’s first elected black president.

It looks like all she really wanted to do was “sang” and was unavailable for anything else. Usher put his time where his mouth was, volunteering at a school in SE DC – arguably the roughest part of the city – and from where I came. Go Usher. Go H.O.B.s.

Loyal reader,
Aikandy
