According to industry estimates, British songbird Susan Boyle’s debut platter ‘I Dream A Dream’ is set to crush Rihanna’s 1st week sales of her 4th CD by over 800,000 copies! Boyle’s CD set a record in the UK for the biggest 1st week for a debut album in history with over 400K units sold.
Here in America, the Britain’s Got Talent runner up is expected to top that figure with over 600K sold in the first week, giving her an astonishing 1 million albums sold in the first week!
There is something to be said for great music. I guess all those industry fools who think sex sells over talent are rethinking their strategies now.
Meanwhile, Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna, ‘Rated R’ is expected to sell just 180-200k here in the states. This, despite the incredible hype attached to Rihanna’s first sit down interview where she discussed her beat down at the hands of convicted woman beater Chris Brown.
Lady GaGa’s Fame Monster EP, a seven-song addition to the deluxe edition available on its own, will do 180-200k.

@ Krysi…I always laugh when an artist says that nobody is selling just because they didnt. People still go out and purchase several copies of a good cd. I get one for the house, one for the car, and one for that friend who always wants to “borrow” ish. I download, but I will still carry my butt to Target for the right cd.

OMG Susan’s album is great! She does a cover of a Rolling Stones song called Wild Horses and she blows it out of the water. The Stones didn’t do the song half the justice. Susan has a great voice.

I think that’s pretty good for Lady Gaga. The songs “The Fame” album are still being played and the new songs from “The Fame Monster” are starting to get played. The albums are really close together, so I did not even know the new songs I was hearing was from the new album. I was out shopping and saw the new cd from Lady Gaga, I bought it. Lady Gaga is very talented. You guys should check out her music before she (Stefani Germanotta) became “Lady Gaga”. Rihanna did not even have a good song out to promote or build up hype for her album. Congrats to Susan, that lady can sang!

Kinda on topic: How many albums did Rihanna move the first week for GGGB? I don’t think she ever opened with big numbers. She releases lots of singles which keeps her album selling for a while.
