It used to payola to the DJ’s who kept your music playing now it’s payola to the media and paparzzi to keep quiet about your cocaine induced and exstasy aided threesomes with the maid and poolboy. They barter with favorable and (more importantly) exclusive pics to keep the negative ones out of the light. (See the Knowles camp and Jamie Foxx)
2. Your star power and how you came into it. No matter what you do you’ll always be a victim and never wrong about anything. When the public finds out you were wrong they make all the excuses so you dont have to. (See Drew Barrymore, Jay-Z, Britney Spears)
3. Which media market you pander to. If you do something scandalous, sometimes they’d rather turn a blind eye to it and keep it moving just to keep on the right side of the money relationship. The mainstream will report on Shaq’s divorce but it ain’t touching the backstory about Gilbert, Superhead and the paying of the women Kobe mentioned in a legal proceeding. (See Gabrielle Union, Shaq Diesel and Michael Jordan, Tracy Morgan)
4. Pop princesses and ridiculously pretty women are untouchable. We only find out about them when their story is attached to whomever did them wrong. (See Rihanna, Britney Spears, Halle Berry)
But it mostly comes back to your rapport with the media who report on you.

It has been said in a rare interview that never saw the light that the song Sweetest Taboo, and much of her album Promise, is about heroin – the way it makes you feel, and the things you do for it when you’re addicted.
