Rapper Nelly is featured on MTV's "When I Was 17." Nelly recalls his life growing up in St. Louis, where he excelled in peewee baseball, football, and jumped to the big leagues of petty theft.

Nelly came to prominence in 2000 with his top ten hit "Country Grammar." He went on to sell 21 million albums in the U.S. in his career and Billboard magazine named him 3rd Top Overall Artist of the 2000-2009 decade.

Usher gets points for this artful recreation of a Sammy Davis Jr. pose on the cover of the current Ebony magazine to celebrate their 65th anniversary.

The R&B crooner is enjoying renewed success with his album Raymond vs. Raymond, which scanned 1,103,546 copies sold to date.

Usher is seen rocking a crisp blue suit reminiscent of the suits Davis wore in the 60s. The suit was designed by Martin Margiela.

Davis died at age 64 of throat cancer in 1990.

In 1988, bad girl singer Cherrelle, who was R&B singer Pebbles' cousin, dropped her 5th single "Affair" off her third album of the same title.

"Affair" became an instant dance hit and peaked at #4 on the charts. The vinyl 45 record was snatched up by single ladies everywhere off the strength of self assured lyrics like this: "I don't need commitment/ I don't need no man to tell me how to feel"

Check out the funky dance moves by the redhead in this video. I had every move down pat in 1988!

Everyone keeps telling me about this video of the Mike Tyson remake of Bobby Brown's "Every Little Step" video.

I guess I don't have a sense of humor because this video is just not funny to me. Maybe I would have hollered if Mike could actually dance a little? Speaking of which, I know who Mike Tyson is, but who is Wayne Brady and the other dude?

Rapper Soulja Boi and singer Keri Hilson were the talent performing at the unveiling of Dr. Dre's Beats By Dr. Dre & Monster's new product line at the Best Buy theater in NYC yesterday. Keri did her best Ciara impressions. She tries so hard. Bless her heart. More pics from the concert after the break!

Now Natalie Cole, you know you are too old for this! The daughter of the legendary crooner Nat King Cole was seen strolling on the Upper East Side in NYC yesterday.

Entrepreneur Evelyn Lozada, who has emerged as the face of VH1's hit reality TV show Basketball Wives, was once a video vixen sashaying her hips in music videos such as Jay Z's "I Just Wanna Love You (Give it 2 Me)".

This according to my sharp-eyed reader, Justtina K., who spotted the young Evelyn Lozada wearing a powder blue dress and bikini throughout this video.

If you notice, Evelyn manages to keep her face out of most of the video frames. No doubt because she knew she had a daughter at home who would one day be old enough to view the video (Shaniece would have been 7 when this video was made back in 2000).

Justtina writes:

Hey Sandra,

I was watching videos the other day and Jay-Z's video "Give it to me" came on. I know this may be old but one of the girls in the video dancing looks just like Evelyn Lozada. You know she had the biggest issue with the way Royce was dancing. Just wondering if you can confirm this for me.

Maia Campbell, the once beautiful star of LL Cool J's "In the House" is now incarcerated in the big house.

The 33-year-old daughter of author BeBe Moore Campbell, starred in numerous TV sitcoms and bit roles in movies such as Poetic Justice alongside Janet Jackson and Tupac. Like most washed up young stars with no job skills, Maia briefly dabbled in porn and then street drugs.

Maia was arrested on July 5th in Santa Monica, CA after being videotaped in a drug-induced haze. She remains incarcerated on $40,000 bond at the same facility where actress Lindsay Lohan was jailed. This is her 2nd arrest. It is believed that Maia suffers from bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

Hill, 35, is scheduled to perform in a few shows as part of the lineup of the Rock the Bells tour. In the past few days, a previously unheard track titled "Repercussions" which is purported to be of her singing has hit the Web. The notoriously private singer also recently gave an interview to National Public Radio, sounding very much like a star on the comeback trail.

"I'm starting to get excited again," Hill told NPR. "Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first."
Not everyone is convinced.

"I'm not sure if there is a comeback," said Gail Mitchell, senior editor covering R&B and hip-hop at Billboard magazine. "Maybe that interview with NPR was to prime people, but until there is an announcement or new music, I don't think we can say that anything is set."

"Is she coming back or is she just doing what she has always done?" said Sandra Rose, who runs the popular gossip site SandraRose.com. "She performs, makes some money and then she disappears again."
It's not quite the career the world expected of Hill after her hit album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," was released in 1998 and went on to garner the singer 10 Grammy nominations (the most of any female performer at the time) and five awards.

Good Day Ms. Rose,

My name is Dominique from Los Angeles and I visit your site every single day. I have attempted to register to comment on your site to no avail, but I just had to leave you with this!

I saw the pictures of Nas and Amy at Damien Marley's birthday party leaving together, and my mouth dropped open.

I have been an Amy Winehouse fan since her first album, and I was completely blown away after the Back to Black album, which I call the soundtrack to my life. Although she's a real live crackhead, she has undeniable talent.

With that being said, true Amy Winehouse fans know that it has been rumored for many years that Amy and Nas were a couple in the past. There is even a song that is presumably about Nas, entitled "Me and Mr. Jones" which is obviously about a tumultuous relationship between the two. It is one of my favorite songs of all time and she is CLEARLY talking about Nas. Sandra please Google it!

Some of the most notable verses go "Mr Destiny, 9 and 14" (they share the same birthday) "Besides Sammy you're my best Black Joe" I mean come on, the song is called Me and Mr (Nasir) Jones! I thought people knew this already, but all over the internet people are saying "What is Nas doing with Amy Winehouse"!!

Whew! I vented and now I feel better!

Love your blog,

Domi from L.A.!!!
